Pothamus: "Abur" Studio Documentary
Belgian sludge/post-rock trio Pothamus have posted a short documentary about the recording of their new album Abur. They did not go for the easy route to create the additional sounds they needed, because they felt that using samples won't feel natural. They brought extra instruments to add to their sonic palet.
Abur will be released on February 14 via Pelagic Records (vinyl, CD). They will perform the album in full @ Roadburn in Tilburg on April 20.

Becoming Led Zeppelin documentary in February
Years in the making, but it is finally happening: a documentary about Led Zeppelin will be shown in Imax theatres on February 7. And all surviving band members are on board, which is some kind of miracle. Directed by Bernard MacMahon.

Steven Wilson: Ask Me Nicely (The Making of To The Bone) video
Over the years the Ask Me Nicely documentary about the making of the Steven Wilson album To The Bone has popped up on YouTube every now an then. It was part of the deluxe version back then. Basically a home video shot by Lasse Hoile, so it is a bit wobbly at times, it is now available legitimately to coincide with the 5 year anniversary of the release of the record.
He will embark on a lengthy European in May and June 2025 to coincide with the release of his new album The Overview.

New box set "Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision" in September
After being in limbo for more than two years, the new Jimi Hendrix box set, Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision, will be available as a 5LP/Blu-ray and 3CD/Blu-ray on September 13. Most of the tracks were recorded @ Electric Lady Studios in New York. The Blu-ray contains the posthumous First Rays of the New Rising Sun album that was released in 1997 in 5.1, plus one track from Rainbow Bridge, The Jimi Hendrix Experience box set, and Valleys of Neptune.
The box set was originally slated for a release in March 2022, but it was pulled from reasons unknown. The same happened to the single with Angel (Take 7) on the A-side and Message To Love (live @ New York Pop Festival, Downing Stadium, Randall's Island, NY - July 17, 1970) on the B-side, which was supposed to be released for Record Store Day that year. It is now available on white vinyl as of today.

"Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision" documentary premiere on August in NYC
Good news, sort of, for Jimi Hendrix fans. The box set has been in limbo since early 2022, but the Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision documentary will finally be shown. Deadline had the exclusive:
Abramorama has taken global rights to Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision, a documentary on the creation of Hendrix’s famed recording studio from Experience Hendrix L.L.C.
The distributor comes to the project after backing two past Hendrix docs from Electric Lady Studios‘ director, John McDermott: Electric Church, as well as Music, Money, Madness: Jimi Hendrix Live In Maui, which was nominated for the Grammy for Best Music Film in 2022. McDermott’s latest will open the Quad in New York city on August 9, with a global rollout to follow.

The 2012 BBC documentary Can You See The Real Me? about Quadrophenia, the greatest album by The Who, has found its way to YouTube again. Pete Townshend is quite funny and to the point discussing the creation of the album, explaining the story of the Jimmy, the "hero" in the musical tale about the Mod culture in England ca 1964.

Brian Jones: documentary on BBC Two
Brian Jones founded The Rolling Stones, acted as their leader in the band's early days, could play pretty much any instrument, but he got sidelined, developed a drug habit, and drowned in swimming pool of his home, Cotchford Farm, in Sussex on July 3rd, 1969. He was 27. That is the short story. Director Nick Broomfield has made a documentary - The Stones and Brian Jones - that will be aired on the Arena series on BBC Two on May 15 at 9PM. When he was 14 he met Brian on the train: "We chatted about trains, mainly. He told me that he loved trains and the line we were travelling on – the Great Western – was his favourite. I just remember thinking how very middle-class, well spoken, polite and accommodating he was".

Steven Wilson: "Insurgentes" documentary
Steven Wilson has posted the remastered documentary that was made during the recording of his solo debut album Insurgentes in 2008. It was released on DVD in 2010.
The Insurgentes documentary / road-movie Lasse Hoile made in 2008-9 about the recording of my first solo album has now been remastered and can be viewed here. It’s a snapshot of where I was at that time in my life - having recently turned 40, this period was about taking some new creative paths, and both my solo career and work remixing classic albums began around this time. We had a lot of fun doing the film but it was not the happiest time for me in my personal life (which definitely comes across), plus not everyone got what we thought was surreal and funny. So I think it created an impression of me as a rather dour and over-serious individual that for some people is - understandably perhaps - still their overriding impression of me! Still I'm proud of what we did, and I believe it remains quite unique in the pantheon of music documentaries.

Morgendust: 14
The members Dutch '80s inspired quintet Morgendust tackle songs that made a lasting impression when they were 14 years old. At that age the charts are still quite important, so all the covers were big hits back in the day and are now considered as classics. They did not go for a straight copies of the original. After all, it is next to impossible to sound like Lou Reed on Walk On The Wild Side or Kate Bush on her duet with Peter Gabriel on Don't Give Up, although guest singer Cindy Oudshoorn makes an admirable effort.
14 is not a nostalgia trip, but an inspired set of reimagined, "re-dis-covered" songs that sowed the seeds for a (side) career in music. Every band starts out playing other people's songs, before working up the nerve to write their own material. By adding a twist of their own sound Morgendust can add a few of these covers to their live set without any problem, acting as both crowd pleasers and a nod to their heroes.
