The Who: new album "Live at Eden Project" in May

On July 25, 2023 The Who played a special show with the Heart of England Philharmonic Orchestra at Cornwall's Eden Project. The setlist was not that suprising - basically the greatest hits, a lot from Tommy and Quadrophenia, and a handful of deep cuts like Cry If You Want and bringing back Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere. The venue wasn't that big, so it was a sense of occasion for those who were there. The complete show will be released on May 29 (3LP, 2CD, digital).

The Who: Can You See The Real Me? on YouTube

The 2012 BBC documentary Can You See The Real Me? about Quadrophenia, the greatest album by The Who, has found its way to YouTube again. Pete Townshend is quite funny and to the point discussing the creation of the album, explaining the story of the Jimmy, the "hero" in the musical tale about the Mod culture in England ca 1964.

A guy who calls himself FridayNightLullaby has covered The Who's finest album Quadrophenia in full. A true labour of love and it sounds pretty good. His vocals are no match for Roger Daltrey's range, but as a musician he comes pretty close to Pete, Keith and John.

The Who: Baba O’Riley live @ Wembley video

The Who have shared a video of Baba O’Riley, a track from their forthcoming live album The Who with Orchestra Live at Wembley. Isobel Griffiths nailed the violin part. The album - recorded on July 6, 2019 - is available for pre-order (3LP set, triple black vinyl, 1 CD and a 2CD / Blu-ray set which features the audio remixed in Dolby Atmos / 5.1). Release date: March 31.

The Who: UK tour in July + new album "The Who with Orchestra Live at Wembley"

The Who have announced a UK tour. They will be performing nine shows with an orchestra in July 2023. It's been 40 years since their last appearance in Edinburgh, but even more special is the gig in Derry, whose citizens who had to wait since 1966 for a change to see them.

North Carolina singer-songwriter and producer Al Riggs recorded three covers for Aquarium Drunkard's The Lagniappe Sessions: Liz Phair's Johnny Sunshine (MP3), Hidden Cameras' High Above The Church Grounds (MP3) and The Who's Eminence Front (MP3). About that last track:

Might be saying something that my two favorite songs by The Who (a band I love very much) are from their later post-Keith period; “You Better You Bet” and “Eminence Front.” I had been threatening my friends, followers, and family members with a ten-minute cover of this song for years now, and now that I’m putting Al Riggs to bed it felt time to finally deliver. Proud of my synth jamming at the beginning and the combination of multiple drum loops and live drumming. Also that grimy guitar solo and the vocoded backing vocals. Had a blast with this one.

Tenacious D: The Who Medley

Kyle Gass and Jack Black, better known as Tenacious D, have posted a video for the studio version of their longtime live favourite, The Who Medley (more accurately a Tommy medley). The clip was directed Liam Lynch, with Ken Russell's movie as the obvious point of reference. It is available as a 7" single and on all the usual digital platforms. All proceeds will donated to Everytown For Gun Safety.

Roger Daltrey: "Who Was I" UK Summer tour

Roger Daltrey will be on tour in the UK this Summer. The Who Was I shows take place in between the two parts of The Who Hits Back in the USA. This is good chance to see him without the aid of binoculars (or staring at the video screens next to the stage).

Thw Who have just announced their The Who Hits Back tour, playing 28 shows in North America. They will be accompanied by a full orchestra. The first leg kicks off on April 22 in Ft. Lauderdale. The Who: "The Who Sell Out Super Deluxe Edition" box set

The Who's classic The Who Sell Out album will get the superdeluxe edition treatment: 5CDs, 2 7" singles and a 80 page book. Orignally it was envisioned by the band's guitarist and resident genius Pete Townshend as at ribute to pirate radio stations, including a few offbeat commercials mostly created by bass player John Entwistle. It is now considered as the band's first concept album, fully embracing the pop art movement of 1967.

Cover Me: Substitute

The Ramones released the covers album Acid Eaters in 1993 and it's not exactly a highlight in their discography. Their version of The Who classic Substitute is not so bad and the video is fun to watch. Introduction by Cramps singer Lux Interior as a demented scientist. Lemmy is in it too, being himself, because no one can play Lemmy.

Two releases by The Who for Record Store Day (April 18 June 20). The first one, A Quick Live One, features their complete set @ Monterey Pop Festival on June 18, 1967. They barreled through six songs within half an hour:

Apparently Pete Townshend is sick an tired of all the copyright claims that are being filed right and left: "A song dedicated to every artist who has ever been accused of ripping off someone else’s song. Seriously? Our musical palette is limited enough in the 21st century without some dork claiming to have invented a common chord scheme."

Quiet Desperation 2.0 - Another Brexit Playlist
