At long last the first show on May 30 at the Berkeley Community Theatre in Berkeley, CA by The Jimi Hendrix Experience will be released in full (well, almost, because Foxy Lady is missing). Magic Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live At Berkeley (First Show) is the long overdue companion piece for the Jimi Plays Berkeley DVD and the Live At Berkeley album (which only covered the second show).
A new Jimi Hendrix compilation, Valley of Jams 1969-1970, will be released by Third Man Records, as part of their Vault series. All tracks have been previously released, so any fan of his work with an above average collection can give it a pass, not wanting to have to shell out the cash for a quarterly vinyl subscription (US / UK/Europe) in order to get this. It is a nice package though: 3 LPs on coloured vinyl in a trifold sleeve, a 7", a patch and a sticker. Tracklist compiled by John McDermott.

Hendrix is louder and more upfront than on the familiar subdued version, and bass player Noel Redding is getting lost before making it back. Mitch Mitchell's background in jazz is shining through, something they should have considered to keep, but didn't.

Axis Bold As Love, the second album by TheJimi Hendrix Experience gets the box set treatment: as a 5LP + Blu-Ray, and 4 CDs + Blu-Ray. Besides the original album in stereo and mono, the set contains 27 previously unreleased instrumentals, demos and alternate takes, plus a couple of live performances recorded in Sweden, the UK and The Netherlands.
The Blu-Ray also features the album in stereo and mono, plus a Dolby Atmos mix by Eddie Kramer and Chandler Harrod. Release date: November 7.

More Jimi Hendrix product: five songs from the Songs For Groovy Children: The Fillmore East Concerts box set are being released on blue and violet swirl vinyl on Black Friday (November 29). 4500 copies worldwide. A missed opportunity to release the five tracks from the second show on December 31, 1969 that were not included on the set instead.

In 1973 Patricia “Trixie” Sullivan, assistant to Jimi Hendrix's manager Mike Jeffery, took home a tape with four demos that were recorded in 1968: Up From the Skies, Ain’t No Telling, Little Miss Lover and Stone Free. One lucky buyer with deep pockets will win the live-streamed auction which is to be held in London on 15 November by Propstore, London based specialists in film, TV and music memorabilia. Besides this particular tape there is a wealth of other tapes, press clipping, bills and letters, all from the same haul that bailiffs failed to recognize as valuable back then.
Fingers crossed these recordings don't end up in the vault, but will see the light of day as a proper release. Good luck trying to sort things out with the incompetents that run Experience Hendrix.

After being in limbo for more than two years, the new Jimi Hendrix box set, Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision, will be available as a 5LP/Blu-ray and 3CD/Blu-ray on September 13. Most of the tracks were recorded @ Electric Lady Studios in New York. The Blu-ray contains the posthumous First Rays of the New Rising Sun album that was released in 1997 in 5.1, plus one track from Rainbow Bridge, The Jimi Hendrix Experience box set, and Valleys of Neptune.
The box set was originally slated for a release in March 2022, but it was pulled from reasons unknown. The same happened to the single with Angel (Take 7) on the A-side and Message To Love (live @ New York Pop Festival, Downing Stadium, Randall's Island, NY - July 17, 1970) on the B-side, which was supposed to be released for Record Store Day that year. It is now available on white vinyl as of today.

Abramorama has taken global rights to Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision, a documentary on the creation of Hendrix’s famed recording studio from Experience Hendrix L.L.C.
The distributor comes to the project after backing two past Hendrix docs from Electric Lady Studios‘ director, John McDermott: Electric Church, as well as Music, Money, Madness: Jimi Hendrix Live In Maui, which was nominated for the Grammy for Best Music Film in 2022. McDermott’s latest will open the Quad in New York city on August 9, with a global rollout to follow.

They talk about 1968, discussing albums by Jimi Hendrix, The Zombies, The Small Faces, The Beach Boys, and a whole lot more. This is part #1 about this year. The good news: a lost archive containing documents and tapes amassed by former Jimi Hendrix manager Mike Jeffery has come to light. The bad news: it will be up for auction, so there is a quite a big risk that interesting items will be snapped by fans with deep pockets. Jeffrey's Trixie Sullivan has hold on unto the archive for decades, but she is looking for buyer now. Experience Hendrix representatives are having a look into it as well. UK music magazine Mojo had a sneak preview:
Diving into the huge stacks of paperwork in a small office in Pinewood Studios is to immerse in the day-to-day running of rock bands at the end of the ’60s. Here’s a postcard from Hawaii from Hendrix to Sullivan in July 1970, on the trip that incorporated his contribution to the movie Rainbow Bridge, plus photographs the incendiary guitarist took on the flight over. And here’s a letter from Sullivan to Jeffery, dated January 10, 1969, updating him on Jimi’s circumstances. “He’s buying new curtains and carpet for the flat and domestication seems to suit him for the moment,” Sullivan writes. “You never know how long it will last…”
The estates of Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding can go forward suing Sony over Jimi Hendrix royalties they hope to claim, despite signing off on those in the Seventies. London's High Court has ruled that the case can go forward. From the Guardian:
Aside from a tiny handful of Redding-penned songs, Hendrix wrote the group’s repertoire and earned the songwriting royalties alone, but the trio shared in royalties for the sound recordings they created together prior to Hendrix’s death aged 27 in 1970.
Believing there would not be any more Jimi Hendrix Experience music released – and with the lucrative CD-reissue and streaming eras still years in the future – the pair signed away their rights in the early 1970s. Redding received $100,000 while Mitchell received $240,000, with both signing documents that stated they would not be able to make future lawsuits over the earnings.
