Gov't Mule: "Make My Peace" from new album "Peace...Like A River"

Blues rock quartet Gov't Mule will release their new album Peace...Like A River on June 16. They have released the sprawling Make My Peace as another taste of what's to come. Singer and guitarist Warren Haynes:

Made My Peace is one of the first songs we recorded for this new album and portrays the most Beatles influence we’ve ever utilized on a recording. It deals with a lot of different aspects of what we’ve all gone through. It touches on the emotions I was having to get past with the loss of my dad, who was an extremely important figure in my life. There are several songs that reflect on loss, but more in a way of making the future count. Taking the rest of your life and looking at it with a fresher, more aggressively positive attitude.

All tracks were recorded during the sessions for their previous album Heavy Load Blues in 2021 @ The Power Station in Waterford, Connecticut. They used separate rooms, gear and instruments to make sure they got a different overall sound. The album is available for pre-order here.

Gov't Mule: New Year's Run in Philly and NYC rescheduled

Blues rock quartet Gov't Mule have made the decision to move their annual NYE run to April:

With the recent spike in new cases as a result of the Omicron variant, we’ve made what we feel is the only safe decision for us and our fans: to postpone our New Year’s Run. The health and safety of our fans, crew and all involved in making these shows happen is always our top priority. We don’t want any of our crew or fans to risk possibly getting sick nor would we want anyone missing out because they feel the right decision for them is to stay home. (...) We’ve always approached our New Year’s runs as a very special set of shows, and these shows in April will be no different.

Gov't Mule: New Year's Run in Philly and NYC

Blues rock quartet Gov't Mule have announced their annual NYE run, playing one show in Philadelphia and two in New York. The December 31 show will most likely filled with songs from the Rolling Stones album Black and Blue.

Gov't Mule: Snatch It Back And Hold It > Hold It Back > Snatch It Back And Hold It

Gov't Mule have posted a video of them running through the Junior Wells classic Snatch It Back And Hold It. As they were playing they worked in a short and sweet jam, before returning to the song. Guitarist Warren Haynes: "We had never played that middle section prior to recording it. While we were working up ‘Snatch It Back,’ we just ran through all the key sections and when we got to the instrumental part, we did a very brief talk through about how it might go. It was virtually a jam, and in that sense, it kind of referenced what we normally do on stage. We get an idea and run with it to see where it winds up. It never turns out exactly like you plan it, which is great, because if it is good, it’s usually better than it would have been had you planned it a certain way".

Gov't Mule: new album "Heavy Load Blues" in November

Gov't Mule will release their new studio album Heavy Load Blues on November 12, their first "all blues album". Warren Haynes explains: "For me, personally, it's kind of been on my list of things to do for years. I didnt know if it was gonna be a solo album or a Gov’t Mule record. We play some traditional blues on stage from time to time and although it's usually never more than a few songs per show, our approach to the blues is unique and based on our collective chemistry as a band. This album gave us a mission. Although in some way it was ‘anything goes,’ we wanted to stay true to the spirit of the blues in a traditional sense. it's not a blues/rock record – it's a blues record. We wanted it sonically to sound different from a normal Gov’t Mule record".

Wetlands Preserved Documentary: The Story of an Activist Rock Club

Relix has put up the Wetlands Preserved Documentary: The Story of an Activist Rock Club on YouTube. It premiered in 2006 and made the rounds on the film festival circuit before a theatrical release in select theaters in Los Angeles and New York.

Archival footage, soundboard recordings and the work of a dozen digital animators help to relate the story of celebrated Tribeca nightclub Wetlands Preserve. The venue gave an early home to artists such as Phish, Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler, Spin Doctors, Widespread Panic, The Roots, moe., Gov’t Mule, Guster, 311, Robert Randolph, Soulive, The Disco Biscuits, all of whom appear in the film along with Bob Weir, Derek Trucks, Oteil Burbridge, Joe Russo, Darius Rucker and many others. Wetlands was not solely a music venue, as the club simultaneously supported a social and environmental activism center.

Gov't Mule: "Abbey Road" on NYE in NYC

Don't be suprised when Gov't Mule plays a lot of (or maybe all) the songs from Abbey Road at their NYE show @ The Beacon Theatre in New York City. They posted a hint in Instagram, a not so great reworking the Beatles album cover. The blues improv band already have played I Want You (She’s So Heavy), She Came In Through The Bathroom Window and The End in the past.

Dark Side of the Mule features 90 minutes of Pink Floyd covers recorded during the band's Halloween 2008 show at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, MA. Now available again on limited transparant/green marble and brown/yellow marble vinyl.

Shout! features 11 tracks recorded by the band plus a bonus album featuring an all-star lineup of vocalists interpreting The Mule songs. Gov't Mule: "Dark Side Of The Mule" tour dates

Gov't Mule will bring back their tribute to PInk Floyd this Summer with six Dark Side Of The Mule shows. They will be supported by The Avett Brothers and special guest The Magpie Salute. The bluesy jam band quartet first performed their tribute in 2008 as part of a three-hour show @ Orpheum Theatre in Boston on Halloween night, a baptism by fire for the new bass player Jorgen Carlsson. The show was released as a CD/DVD set in 2014.
