Steven Wilson: launch of Headphone Dust high res downloads shop
Steven Wilson has launched the Headphone Dust store, offering high res downloads of his output, including a brand new Impossible Tightrope: Live In Madrid album.
For some time I've been planning to have an online platform where I can focus on making audiophile versions of the things I work on. I love (and am still committed to) the Blu-ray format, but not everyone has the capacity to play these discs, not to mention that these releases need to be limited and tend to go out of print quickly, meaning the audio becomes unavailable.

Fischer-Z: on tour in Australia
New Wave band Fischer-Z have announced their first ever shows in Australia as part of their 50th anniversary tour:
Some of you have been with these songs since So Long, The Perfect Day and beyond — and despite never having toured your country, Australia has always been one of our strongest and most passionate listeners. That connection has never gone unnoticed.

Jazz Mandolin Project: extra show in Kingston
All regular shows by the Jazz Mandolin Project sold out quickly, so an extra matinee gig at the Assemby in Kingston, NY on February 7 has been added. Tickets are available here.
Jazz Mandolin Project will perform a short run of dates in New England and New York this February, their first tour in two decades. JMP is an adventurous ensemble founded in 1993 by mandolinist Jamie Masefield in Burlington, VT. What began as a way for Masefield to explore improvisation outside traditional jazz frameworks evolved into a boundary-pushing trio with a rotating cast of collaborators. From its earliest days, the group became known for genre-blurring live shows that leaned into spontaneity, groove, and fearless experimentation. The current lineup includes Masefield, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Danton Boller and trumpeter/multi-instrumentalist Michael "Mad Dog" Mavridoglou.

Record Store Day 2026: April 18
Record Store Day will be celebrating its 19th anniversary on April 18. Mark your calendars and start saving for the interesting stuff, not the major label reissues of albums that can be found without too much trouble on the secondary market (those pressings tend to sound better as well). Prices will be even more insane than last year and the lines will go around the block, so set your alarm at an ungodly hour if you are suffering from a serious case of FOMO.

Steve Cropper: 1941-2025
Guitarist Steve Cropper has died, aged 84. His signature sound was what made Stax Records the cream of the crop for soul music in the 60s. He was a member of Booker T. & the M.G.'s and the go-to 6-string maestro for artists such as Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, and Carla Thomas. He was one of those rare musicians that are instantly recognizable, even after hearing only one note.

Jazz Mandolin Project: short tour in February
After nearly 20 years the Jazz Mandolin Project returns for a short tour in February:

Steven Wilson's "Hand. Cannot. Erase" album comes to the stage
Steven Wilson has given the thumbs up for a stage adaptation of his Hand. Cannot. Erase album:
Oliver Britten contacted me in 2024 about creating a stage version of my 2015 album Hand. Cannot. Erase., a project which I was happy to give my blessing to, as I believe it has the potential to be something very special, and I have been impressed with the draft versions of the script he has shared with me.

Charli XCX & John Cale: new single "House" on November 10
British singer-songwriter Charli XCX reached out to John Cale to hear his opinions about the songs she wrote for the soundtrack for the remake of Wuthering Heights, which will be in theatres in February 2026.
The seeds for this collaboration were sown when she heard Cale say that "any song has to be both elegant and brutal" in The Velvet Underground documentary. One of her tracks clicked:
We started talking specifically about ‘House.’ We spoke about the idea of a poem. He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do. And it was … well, it made me cry.
House will be released on November 10.

Radiohead: European tour
Radiohead will hit the road for a European tour in November and December. Drummer Philip Selway:
Last year, we got together to rehearse, just for the hell of it. After a seven year pause, it felt really good to play the songs again and reconnect with a musical identity that has become lodged deep inside all five of us.
It also made us want to play some shows together, so we hope you can make it to one of the upcoming dates. For now, it will just be these ones but who knows where this will all lead.

Jimi Hendrix: unreleased demos up for auction in London
In 1973 Patricia “Trixie” Sullivan, assistant to Jimi Hendrix's manager Mike Jeffery, took home a tape with four demos that were recorded in 1968: Up From the Skies, Ain’t No Telling, Little Miss Lover and Stone Free. One lucky buyer with deep pockets will win the live-streamed auction which is to be held in London on 15 November by Propstore, London based specialists in film, TV and music memorabilia. Besides this particular tape there is a wealth of other tapes, press clipping, bills and letters, all from the same haul that bailiffs failed to recognize as valuable back then.
Fingers crossed these recordings don't end up in the vault, but will see the light of day as a proper release. Good luck trying to sort things out with the incompetents that run Experience Hendrix.

At the Haarlem Vinyl Festival, you will get the opportunity to join them in the live recording of an episode, during which the audience will be encouraged to contribute their own thoughts and insights. For this special occasion, Steven and Tim need your help picking a year. Should they go for 1970, 1975, 1988, or 1994?
