On what would have Lou Reed's 82nd birthday Keith Richards has unveiled his cover of I'm Waiting For The Man. Pretty much a perfect gift. It will be included on the tribute album The Power of the Heart: A Tribute to Lou Reed, which will be released on Record Store Day (April 20).
It does make sense to have Keith Richards cover I'm Waiting for the Man on a covers album for Record Store Day. It had to been that one or Heroin. The Power of the Heart: A Tribute to Lou Reed also features contributions from Lucinda Williams, Rufus Wainwright and The Afghan Whigs. The latter picked I Love You, Suzanne, Reed's last stab at mainstream success in 1984, including a really cheesy video that got a lot of exposure on MTV.
The Power of the Heart: A Tribute to Lou Reed will available in limited quantities (3000 LPs worldwide, undisclosed number of CDs) on April 20. The booklet features liner notes by compilation producer & former Lou Reed publicist Bill Bentley. Oddly enough they left off the title track from the LP version. Brogan Bentley's version of The Power Of The Heart is only released on the CD.

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are honoured with bronze statues made by Amy Goodman in Dartford. They ran into each other at town’s railway station in 1961, talked music, and the rest is history. From The Guardian:
She said it was an honour and privilege to sculpt “two incredible music icons”. Her aim was to capture their energy and chemistry, she added.
Goodman decided to depict Jagger and Richards as they were in the 1980s. “I could have gone for any time between their late teenage years to their late 70s,” she said.
Two Keith Richards songs from his show @ Town & Country Club, Kentish Town, London on December 18, 1992 will be released on a red 7" single for Record Store Day (June 12): the previously unreleased Wicked As It Seems, from his solo album Main Offender, backed by a renditon of the Stones classic Gimme Shelter. 3500 copies world wide.

Directed b Julien Temple Keith Richards - The Origin Of The Species focuses on his formative years and the transition of a choirboy singing in front of the Queen at Westminster Abbey to a blues fan.

Four years in the making Johnny Depp's film about Keith Richard will finally see the light of day:
I've been working on it for about four years now and we've just completed the filming. Actually, it's a little strange to call it a documentary, it's more an opportunity to experience Keith - as people don't get to see him because he's quite a mysterious being. Essentially it's Keith and I sitting around having a conversation and what it boils down to is his wisdom and his philosophy and his experiences - and that would be cut with footage of his life.
I got him for five days about three years ago, and then in February I was with him for another five days and we continued from where we left off...
I feel blessed that this guy, who has never done anything like this before, has put his trust in me and allowed him to document his life. In some way - and I'm not comparing myself to him - I feel like Alan Lomax (music documentarian)... Doing this with Keith and recording how he thinks and how he looks back at 50 years of fame is pretty fascinating.

It's been 20 years since Keith Richards released a solo album. Crosseyed Heart will be released on September 18th via Republic Records. The album was co-produced by drummer Steve Jordan and features contributions by Waddy Wachtel (guitar), Ivan Neville (keyboards), Larry Campbell (pedal steel), Spooner Oldham (keyboards) and vocalists Sarah Dash, Bernard Fowler, Norah Jones, and Aaron Neville. His partner-in-crime Bobby Keys was on Sax duty.
Keef played acoustic and electric guitar, piano and bass. The first single, Trouble, drops on July 17th.
Sax player Bobby Keys succumbed to cirrhosis, aged 70, at his home in Franklin, TN. He was to go player for 55 years, performing with Buddy Holly, The Who, and Eric Clapton, but will be forever associated with the Rolling Stones. He first played on Live With Me, composed the signature solo for Brown Sugar in 1971 and became best friends with Keith Richards. The Guardian reports that "Keys played during the band’s Glastonbury headline slot in 2013, although in October he was forced to pull out of dates in New Zealand and Australia citing poor health."

Early on, when I had played the tape of my melody for Mick, his lyrics were about brutal adults. We recorded them and called the song, "Did Everyone Pay Their Dues?" But we weren't that crazy about the results, and the lyrics underwent several rewrites once we saw what was going on in the streets in London and Paris in 1968. While we were in the studio, Mick had been at a huge demonstration against the Vietnam War in London's Grosvenor Square in March. And we were both in Paris in May during the violent protests by students demanding reforms. The French cops were pretty nasty about it. As we traveled around, Mick and I would look at each other and realize something big was happening in two major capitols of the world and that our generation was bursting at the seams.
Mick knew that "Dues" needed an overhaul that better matched what was going on. I came up with the line, "What can a poor boy do" and threw it out to Mick. He completed the thought with " 'Cept to sing for a rock 'n' roll band" and he wrote the rest of the new lyrics in the studio. That's how we often worked. One of us would have a piece of a lyric that sounded interesting, then hand it off to the other to get things going.

Keith will be part of a stellar lineup of musicians honoring the late blues master Hubert Sumlin. The "Howlin' for Hubert" memorial concert takes place Friday, February 24 at the legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NYC.
Among others also paying tribute to Mr. Sumlin that night will be legends-in-their-own-right Eric Clapton, Keb Mo', Susan Tedeschi, Buddy Guy, and Dr. John. Tickets are available now through Ticketmaster, and proceeds go to benefit The Jazz Foundation of America.
