Re-Machined: A Tribute to Deep Purple's Machine Head
Few hard rock records have made such a lasting impact as the Machine Head, the 1972 album by Deep Purple. Odd to think that band choose Never Before as the first single back then. Apparently they didn't realise the power of Highway Star and Smoke On The Water. Classic Rock has assembled a roster of notable acts for the tribute CD Re-Machined. Release date: September 24th.
The fanpack also comes with an in-depth, official, band-endorsed 124-page magazine which includes exclusive new interviews with world-class guitarists Joe Bonamassa and Steve Vai and the members of Metallica, Iron Maiden and Chickenfoot amongst others talking about recording these classic songs, plus brand new interviews with Deep Purple – one of the last interviews with the late Jon Lord – on the making of their most well-loved album and exclusive and previously unpublished photographs and artefacts from the Purple archives.Tracks:
- Smoke On The Water - Carlos Santana / Jacoby Shaddix
- Highway Star - Chickenfoot
- Maybe I'm A Leo - Glenn Hughes / Chad Smith
- Pictures of Home - Black Label Society
- Never Before - Kings of Chaos
- Smoke On The Water - The Flaming Lips
- Lazy - Jimmy Barnes with Joe Bonamassa
- Space Truckin’ - Iron Maiden
- When A Blind Man Cries - Metallica
Special edition fanpack only: - Highway Star - Glenn Hughes, Steve Vai, Chad Smith, Lachy Doley

HCTF review of Chickenfoot III.
October 18, 2011
Chickenfoot: III

Assemble a quartet of seasoned veterans in a studio and give them 4 days to cut an album. Let the guitar player bring in a stack of demos, which wont' be used much. Set up the recording equipment, roll tape and end up with 45 minutes of loud neo-classic rawk, touching base with BTO, Keith Richards, Van Halen and all those fist-pumping roadtrip anthems that will get you into trouble with the law for speeding. That's what you get when you put your Big Foot down ...
III is the second album by Chickenfoot, who exploded on the scene in 2009. Michael Anthony (bass), Sammy Hagar (vocals), Joe Satriani (guitar) and Chad Smith (drums) have seen it all. When they released their self-titled debut it looked like another one-off side-project, all in good fun, with a tour, a deluxe edition of the album and a live DVD. The latter proved that there be future for the band - they expanded the songs on stage, just a short look to each other would suffice to take it to another level.
They've have grown and the band sounds deeper and more loose. While fun pertains, lyricist Hagar isn't afraid to take stand. Three an a Half Letters is about people who desperate to get a job to make ends meet and Up Next is an angry songs about mortality. Guitar player Joe Satriani gets the change to channel his heroes and peers, refraining from the virtuoso fireworks of his solo work, rocking out with a big smile on his face. Chad Smith unleashes his inner Bonham and Michael Anthony slaps his bass like there is no tomorrow as well as providing pretty good backing vocals.
The only clunker is Come Closer, s sappy ballad that is so heavy on cliches that it fails to register. Rewind to a song like Alright Alright with a Stones-y riff and you feel much better. With III it look like these guys are in it for the long run. As long they can work around each others busy schedules, changes are that will a real third album within a year or two.
III is released on on earMusic. UK release date: October 24th. Available CD, limited cd/dvd combo, digital and vinyl. The first run of the Cd and DVD options comes in a 3D-cover, optical enhancers included. The DVD features an EPK, including exclusive interviews with the band and behind-the-scenes footage, the Big Foot and Sexy Little Thing videos, and an live version of Turning Left, recorded live in Phoenix, Arizona (previously released on the Get Your Buzz On Get Your Buzz On “Live” DVD).

Chickenfoot: "Big Foot" single, new album "III" 09/27

Chickenfoot are back with a new album. III drops September 27. The first single Big Foot is a steaming, stomping rock song. Nothing new and hardly relevant when it comes to taking music to another level. But it sounds great. Michael Anthony (bass), Sammy Hagar (vocals), Joe Satriani (guitar) and Chad Smith (drums) are having fun obviously.

Chickenfoot: Get Your Buzz On “Live”

You are really pushing it as a band when you have released just one album, then did a extended version and recycle your stuff once more with a live DVD and Blue-ray.
The Chickenfoot show at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix, Arizona on September 23rd, 2009 was captured for Get Your Buzz On “Live”. Filmed in high-definition 16 cameras Michael Anthony (bass), Sammy Hagar (vocals, guitar), Joe Satriani (guitar) and Chad Smith (drums) are enjoying themselves immensely on stage. Hagar knows how to handle a crowd, Chad Smith acts as comic relief and Satriani and Anthony go through all the rock poses and moves. Generally following the running order of their album they stretch the set a bit - a bass solo in Soap On A Rope, advanced shredding during Oh Yeah and adding a new intro to Down The Drain. These guys are living their rock dreams to the hilt, grinning like there is no tomorrow. The songs have acquired an edge an urgency that was missing from the studio album - being on stage in front of an audience backed by wall of Marshall stacks obviously helped.

Chickenfoot: Chickenfoot (DeLuxe Edition)

Chickenfoot are seasoned musicians who know how the businnes works. Release an album and then - just in time for Christmas - release it again as a DeLuxe Edition. First things first: Michael Anthony (bass), Sammy Hagar (vocals), Joe Satriani (guitar) and Chad Smith (drums) are a super tight rock band that can bring the house down. You can see for yourself on this edition of Chickenfoot. It comes with a documentary DVD featuring live footage of a show at the Montreux Jazz Festival on the 4th of July this year.
Of course there is a lot of behind the scenes giggling as the band introduces each song of the album. There a few things that are nice to know - Chad Smith and Mark Anthony explaining that Down The Drain was a one-take wonder recording, and Sammy Hagar reminiscing about a surprised Joe Satriani who never would have thought that he would be singing in that particular spot of the song. And it's nice to have the promo videos for the singles Oh Yeah, Soap on a Rope and Sexy Little Thing. All in all one hour of solid family entertainment.

Chickenfoot: Chickenfoot
When four reputed musicians start a new band just for the hell of it, the fun factor comes first and the music often suffers. Chickenfoot is Michael Anthony (bass), Sammy Hagar (vocals), Joe Satriani (guitar), Chad Smith (drums), all guys who don't have to proof anything and have been breathing rock for decades. Their self-titled album is filled to the rafters with loud anthems which will make you pump your fists in the year. Satriani took care of the music, often emulating the tone of George Harrison, and Hagar supplied the lyrics. He is no poet, but he knows what works: a little sex, a bit of hard luck, raising hell, and a ballad.
The big suprise is Chad Smith, who lays down a rock solid straightforward back beat, on which the rest of the band can build and expand. Is Chickenfoot a whim of four guys with a little spare time on their hands? If so, this album is a loud footnote in their careers, deserving to be heard, but not essential by any means. It will while away the hours on a long drive.
Chickenfoot is released on earMusic.

- Sexy Little Thing
- Oh Yeah
- Runnin' Out
- Get It Up
- Down The Drain

The First Editions of the Chickenfoot CD & LP packages have been printed with a non-toxic Thermochromic ink. Simply, the ink reacts to heat and changes it’s appearance above and below 84ºF /29ºC. For example; If the package is at a general room temperature (around 73ºF) and is touched by a warm body part (above 84ºF) the ink will appear transparent at the point of contact. Once the surface of the ink returns to a cooler temperature (below 84ºF) it will return to it’s original opaque black color.
