Perth-based art-noise punk trio moyamoya are adamant to mix things up both musically and lyrically. Their latest single unaustralian takes a swipe at the can-do no worries mentality of their country. Yes, failure is an option, as is fucking up big time once one feels like it. Snarling almost spoken word singing on top of a very enjoyable fuzzy garage rock backing, which will be frowned upon by the tourist board and everyone else that has a stake at marketing Australia as some kind of paradise.

moyamoya: new album "Hawn" 12/24, stream "Atari Hard"
Post-rock noise experimentalists moyamoya will release their second full-length on December 24 thru Fort Lowell Records. They kept in touch with their audience through a steady of digital 45s, but now it's time again for a "proper" album. hHey named it Hawn, after one of their first band names. Listen to a stream of Atari Hard, a harsh excursion replete with vintage beeps and purrs.

moyamoya: I Heart Jet Noise
Post-rock noise experimentalists moyamoya are mostly rather subdued on their new digital 45 I Heart Jet Noise. Brennan Hamill delivers a monolithic yet melodic backing, allowing drummer Scott Madgett to keep it basic and guitarist Richard Dudley to get in touch with his prog and post-rock leanings.
The Jacksonville, FL based trio have a firm grip on their seemingly loose textures. There is always a method and a melody, no matter how they try to hide it, wrapping things up with a borderline dance beat. No wonder that Willie Evans Jr took the bait and used it as the starting point for his Chem-trail Mix for the B-side.

moyamoya: Baracus
Post-rock noise experimentalists moyamoya are not a profilic bunch, but when they share something new they make sure it's something memorable. Their digital 45 Baracus is study of light and shade, kicking off with a bunch of static that gives way to forays into gentle guitar, industrial rock, with bass player Brennan Hamill providing a groundswell of low notes that come crashing from the speakers.
The Jacksonville, FL based trio that doesn't seems to care a lot about song structure, but they always find a groove that demands undivided attention. Keith William provided a remixed version, renamed Baaracus. He took the opening static from the original and sprinkled it all over the track, turned down the keyboards and the guitar.

moyamoya: Ded Mel 25
Ded Mel 25, the new song from post-rock noise experimentalists moyamoya, is a two-faced composition. It starts (and ends) as a slow moving meandering excursion with a towering loud segment smack in the middle of the song. Obviously there is some trouble in paradise.
The remix created Navigateur (nom-de-plume of electronica musician Carlos R. Andujar) is a far more sunny take on the track and lacks the darkness of the original.
Ded Mel 25 is released as a digital 45 via Fort Lowell Records. Buy it from Bandcamp, Google Play or iTunes.

moyamoya: "spring guide to fashion" video
Noise rock trio moyamoya have made a live video for spring guide to fashion, a monolithic track from their self-titled debut album. moyamoya: moyamoya
Exquisite noise from Florida. Jacksonville based instrumental trio moyamoya (Japanese for "a puff of smoke") are into smoldering soundscapes augmented with loud-quiet-loud guitar vignettes and keyboard textures. To keep it fresh the band switched instruments. Bassist Richard Dudley plays guitar. Guitarist Scott Madgett is on drums and Brennan Hamill, also a guitarist, handles keys and bass. The result: no stock chords, fills and progressions.
By stepping out of their comfort zone moyamoya had to feel their way through the songs, playing by ear to the max, with each musician trying to find a space. Post-rock as a genre is a balancing act - promising musical ideas can get lost in endless repetitive noodling, but when it's done right it makes groundbreaking, captivating listening. Recommended if you like The Fierce and the Dead, Mogwai and God Speed You! Black Emperor.
