The Fierce & The Dead: News From The Invisible World
English prog experimentalists The Fierce & The Dead had been always very vocal about not wanting to repeat themselves, but when Wonderful, the first track of what become the News From The Invisible World album, was released last year longtime followers of the band had to wrap their heads around something very different indeed: bass player Kev Feazey singing. That was a first for the band, who never bothered with words, but let the music do the talking. O, and there was a bit saxophone and trumpet on it as well, courtesy of Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey / Spiritualized / Faust).
After the initial shock had subsided, people came to realize that adding vocals made perfect sense for a band that always looking for ways to extend their musical pallette, a sentiment that was enhanced by the second single Golden Thread, an adventurous song that boldly switches from metal to prog, surf and avant-garde, with dark and stark washes of guitar and synths riding on top of the groundswell of bass and drums. News From The Invisible World is a brave record, bringing their vulnerability that was always there into the spotlights. Guitarists Matt Stevens and Steve Cleaton have each other's back throughout it, deploying the art of weaving that makes a great band sound bigger than its component parts, especially during Non-Player that is as close as they ever got to write a power ballad.

English prog experimentalists The Fierce & The Dead have unveiled a video for their new single, Wonderful, their first track to feature vocals. The animation was made by band member Kev Feazey, using a background created by comic book artist Mark Buckingham.

The Fierce & The Dead: Wonderful
For the first time in their career English prog experimentalists The Fierce & The Dead have added vocals to their music. Kev Feazey's delivery on the new hard-hitting single Wonderful is almost buried entirely in effects, but this extension of their musical palette and the addition of a choice saxophone and trumpet parts courtesy of Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey/Spiritualized/Faust) is a sneak peak of what they have in store for their upcoming new album News From The Invisible World. It their first new studio material since the release of their The Euphoric album. Two remixes - a "purist" instrumental one and a "Vek Noir" reinterpration - are up on their Bandcamp page.

The Fierce & The Dead: Parts 1-8 playlist
Back in 2015 Lewis Shelley made a compilation video of the first six then released "parts" by English avant-prog experimentalists The Fierce & The Dead. That clip is long gone, but now the band's guitarist Matt Stevens has made a playlist of all eight parts, so now it runs for 48 minutes.

The Fierce & The Dead: Live At The Hope & Anchor
At the time the members of and the crowd at the sold out The Fierce & The Dead show at the Hope And Anchor in London on March 5, 2020 would not have guessed that this would their last live gig due to COVID. Luckily the tapes were rolling and now they have released a 3-track live EP, kicking off with the first ever on stage outing of 10x10, using keyboards, an instrument that had started using only recently. They added the two more oldies Part 2 from If It Carries On Like This We Are Moving To Morecambe and Palm Trees, a fan favourite from their 2015 EP Magnet.

Mark Duffy made another video for English instrumental prog experimentalists The Fierce & The Dead. Dancing Robots is captured in a stream of swirling waves and explosions. It can be found on their 2018 album album The Euphoric.
