Kyle Gass and Jack Black, better known as Tenacious D, have posted an over the top video for their version of You Never Give Me Your Money and The End, two songs from the Abbey Road medley. It is available as a 7" single and on all the usual digital platforms. All proceeds will donated to Doctors Without Borders.

Director Peter Jackson has shared a montage of the forthcoming documentary Get Back. He could go through 56 hours of footage of The Beatles recording the Let It Be album at Abbey Road studios in London. Drummer Ringo Starr went on record to say that "There were hours and hours of us just laughing and playing music, not at all like the version that came out. There was a lot of joy and I think Peter will show that. I think this version will be a lot more peace and loving, like we really were." It could be considered as the long awaited follow-up for the rather bleak film that came out in 1970.

Indie duo Kadeema started out recording their version of The Beatles classic I've Just Seen A Face as an acoustic rendition, before deciding that adding more stuff would make more sense. The vocals are still smack in the middle of the mix, with the music going through various moods to channel the emotional roller coaster ride of the lyrics. The song will be included on their debut EP, Napoleon Tornapart.
Don't be suprised when Gov't Mule plays a lot of (or maybe all) the songs from Abbey Road at their NYE show @ The Beacon Theatre in New York City. In 1979, Michael Stipe, a college student in Athens, Georgia, was browsing in a downtown record store called Wuxtry when he got talking to the clerk, a college dropout and amateur guitarist called Peter Buck. The two men bonded over a love of underground rock and soon decided to form a band, recruiting two fellow students, Bill Berry and Mike Mills. Legendary record producer George Martin, the man who helped shape the sound of The Beatles and tons of other records has died, aged 90. From the BBC:
Record producer Sir George Martin, known as the "fifth Beatle", has died, aged 90..
His family thanked "everyone for their thoughts, prayers and messages of support" after his death at home on Tuesday, his manager said.
Beatles drummer Ringo Starr broke the news on Twitter and led tributes, saying Sir George "will be missed".

Progressive jam band Umphrey's McGee doesn't shy away from a big challenge. They got a chance to record at the renowned Studio 2 @ Abbey Road in London last year and cut a full album within 12 hours. Safe for the vocals (those were added at a later stage in Chicago and LA) The London Session - A Day at Abbey Road Studios takes full advantage of the superb acoustics and dynamics. Given the limited time they had, the sextet opted for stuff that they have been playing live a ton, but never got around to recording in the studio plus a cover of The Beatles classic I Want You (She’s So Heavy), the famous users of Studio 2.
Recording live from the floor is tricky - one band member can screw up a take, but the hallowed "one take wonder" is something that never can be matched with overdubs, edits and such. To up he ante even further, they went for a variety of moods and styles, thus making things way more complicated for the engineers. Acoustic songs (No Diablo, Cut the Cable) sit comfortably next to full-on freak rock (Plunger, Rocker Part 2) and funky jazzy prog stuff (Glory, Bad Friday).
Umphrey's McGee overcame jet lag and nerves to end up with an album that is a 101 for musicians that lock themselves in a pressure cooker of sorts. The London Session - A Day at Abbey Road Studios sounds like a superb live record. It will be hard to capture this kind of intensity and fun when they go back to traditional studio recording methods for the next one.

When jam band Umphrey's McGee was offered the chance to record at the renowned Studio 2 @ Abbey Road in London last year, they didn't think twice. They were in London to perform three shows a the Brooklyn Bowl (June 19-21) and used their day off before stage time to cut a full album within 12 hours.

One of the highlights at the Bonnaroo Festival this year was the Superjam led by slide guitarist Derek Trucks. They played a funky martahon set, kicking things off with The Beatles Eleanor Rigby.
