Chris Cornell, lead singer of American rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, has died unexpectedly. The greatest singer from the gurnew era - he had a four octaves range - was on tour with Soundgarden. Cuse of death is unknown. From The Guardian:
In a statement to the Associated Press, his representative, Brian Bumbery, said Cornell died on Wednesday night in Detroit.
Bumbery called the death “sudden and unexpected” and said his wife and family were shocked. The statement said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause, and asked for privacy.

Grunge rockers Soundgarden have unveiled a video for Halfway There, the third single from their King Animal album. This is as close as they are going to get channeling the melodicism of The Beatles in their Abbey Road phase.

On Record Store Day, April 20, Soundgarden will be releasing a limited edition vinyl of the King Animal demos worldwide. This is the first time these recordings have been available together.
The songs will be pressed on 10" pink vinyl and the 6-song package will also include a free digital download card.
Dutch hardhitting power rock band Daybroke have released a new EP. Burn It To The Ground finds them channeling their heroes (Foo Fighters, Soundgarden). The lyrics need some work, but there nothing wrong with the vibe is there. The title track is radio-friendly mainstream rocker, but the standout track is Cosmic Candy Store, with layered vocals and rumbling drums and guitars culminating into a fist-pumping anthem, which has encore favorite written all over it.
Their Blue-collar no-frills was well received in their hometown Tilburg and they are making inroads into the Dutch club circuit this a band that will rely on word-of-mouth, picking up fans one a the time up along the way.

A new single by grunge legends Soundgarden. Been Away Too Long has the loud-as-fuck vocal by Chris Cornell, a return to form as a rawk singer. The production is rather muddy, but it's good to have them back. Stream it here.

Naming your debut The Greatest Hits EP is a bold move for a quartet of shoestring budget recordings, but their enthusiasm is matched by their songwrting abilities. Think of mix between the aplomb of Soundgarden and the anger of The Jam.
With their typical English blend of bravado, succinct lyrics and looking sharp, The Fiction's dreams of bigger thing might become a reality.

Altenative rock trio SÙR hail from Nizza Monferrato, a community located 60 km southeast of Turin, Italy. Early nineties grunge is a major influence on their sound and their Brainshift EP deals with the darker sides of life.
The trio tries hard to emulate their heroes (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam). Recorded on a shoestring budget it is not quite loud enough, lacking depth and power. Drummer Giulio Serra has the chops for the big stage, but singer Dimitrij Bonzo should work on his vocal range if he is serious about reaching the next level.
