Warren Haynes w/ Railroad Earth: stream "Company Man" from new album "Ashes and Dust"

Warren Haynes (Gov’t Mule, Allman Brothers Band, The Dead) shares Company Man from his new album Ashes and Dust He teamed up with roots folkies Railroad Earth for this foray into Americana. From Billboard:

It's a song about Haynes' father, which he wrote several years ago and then revised after "kind of interviewing him to make sure that all the facts were accurate" during a trip to New Orleans. "My dad grew up working in a grocery store for 23 years and then the company was gonna close down in the southeast," Haynes recalls. "They said they could relocate him to the West Coast or Northeast or Midwest or something, but he wasn't into it. That's not where his roots were. He didn't want to move his whole family. So he said no and started over and got a job in a factory where kids had more seniority than him. To me it's just a true Southern tale of someone who lived their life by his own standards. He has a lot of conviction, and I've always admired him for it."

Ashes and Dust will be released on July 24, 2015 via Concord Records. Pre-order it from his website. All orders will come with an exclusive download or disc version of bonus live tracks.

Live dates:
  • 06/27 Grand Old Opry Radio Show - Nashville, TN

Warren Haynes w/ Railroad Earth: "Front And Center" on US TV

On February 3rd this year Warren Haynes and Railroad Earth teamed up for a Front and Center show @ The McKittrick Hotel in NYC. It will be broadcasted this Summer on various networks in the USA. Haynes:

It was a really special opportunity to play in such an intimate space in front of such an attentive yet enthusiastic audience. The McKittrick Hotel’s speakeasy vibe seemed to work perfectly with both the solo material at the beginning of the show and, later, when I was accompanied by Railroad Earth.

Gov't Mule: on tour with John Scofield

Blues rockers Gov't Mule team up with guitarist John Scofield for a Sco-Mule Winter tour. They performed two legendary instrumental shows in September 1999 which will finally be released on January 23, 2015. Preorders come with a bonus CD.

Gov't Mule guitar player Warren Haynes about the release and tour in Glide Magazine:

We were looking to release it when we recorded it but then Allen Woody passed away and everything in the world of Gov’t Mule changed at that point. The focus at first became whether or not we were going to continue [as a band], and then once we made the decision to continue the focus became how to move forward. The way we chose to move forward was doing The Deep End Volume I and II with 25 bass players.

Then once we settled on a bass player the mission became creating new music and at no time did it feel like the right time to release the SCO-MULE record even though we were always looking for that time and were always very proud of the performances. We’ve gone through a lot of changes since that time and it’s hard to release too many live and studio recordings close to each other without feeling like you’re competing with yourself. So the 20th anniversary seemed like the right time to put out a bunch of stuff and SCO-MULE was at the top of that list. It was an amazing two nights – originally it was going to be a one CD release all pulled from the Atlanta show – but since we’ve had so much time to live with it, it’s somehow turned into a two CD release and I’m really happy with the way it turned out. We’re also planning a tour with John [Scofield] next year in support of the record. That was part of the concept too. That’s a very special release for us, so we didn’t want to put it out and not be able to promote it. The concept was always to find time when Gov’t Mule and John [Scofield] were available to do a tour, and that’s what we’re going to do next year.
Live dates:
  • 02/18 Moore Theatre, Seattle, WA
  • 02/19 McDonald Theatre, Eugene, OR
  • 02/20 Fox Theater, Oakland, CA
  • 02/24 The Ogden Theatre in Denver, CO
  • 02/26 State Theatre, Minneapolis, MN
  • 02/27 The Riviera Theatre, Chicago, IL
  • 02/28 The Egyptian Room (Old National Centre), Indianapolis, IN
