English musicians and music geeks extraordinaire Steven Wilson and Tim Bowness have posted a new episode of their podcast The Album Years. They talk about 1977, discussing albums by Rush, Yes, Utopia, and a whole lot more. This is part #2A of what will be 8 episodes about this year.
Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett has launched a new podcast, Shred With Shifty. In Episode 1 he talks with Rush maestro Alex Lifeson. The main focus lies on the Limelight solo.
Experimental avant-funk metal trio Primus bring their A Tribute to Kings tour to Europe. They will perform the Rush album A Farewell to Kings in its entirety in the first set, followed by a set of their own songs. Thye might even throw in some unreleased material they have been working on.
Rush fans can get there hands on one of the expensive themed pinball machines made by Stern Pinball. It comes in three versions - pro, premium and limited. The manfacturer boasts that the machines include exclusive concert footage and speech snippets from Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee (and for some reason Ed Robertson from the Barenaked Ladies). Caveat: besides the hefty prize tag these things will only work in North America, where they use 60 cycle electricity.

Experimental avant-funk metal trio Primus are not giving up. They have moved a large portion of their A Tribute to Kings tour to 2022. They will perform the Rush album A Farewell to Kings in its entirety in the first set. They have three support acts: Battles, Black Mountain, and Black Angels. Each of them will be opening them during a part of the tour.

Third time is the charm...we've postponed this Tribute to King's tour twice now. Once because we opted to help send Slayer on their way into retirement and once because mother nature decided to slap us all into isolation with a nasty virus. This time I will get to go out there and get my "Geddy on". I've got my Ricky shined up and have been practicing my Moog licks. 2020 has proven to be one nasty kick to the crotch on many levels. This nation is divided beyond anything I've ever seen; from who's wearing masks or not to who's treating folks with common dignity...or not. Let's hope 2021 will resolve us all into some form of unity. As far as touring, it will be nice to be back in the saddle again, see y'all next summer..."Geddy up!"

Experimental avant-funk metal trio Primus will perform the classic Rush album A Farewell to Kings in its entirety during their A Tribute to Kings tour. All three band members are huge fans of the Canadian prog trio. The tour should have happened last year, but they could resist the opportunity to join Slayer on their final shows. Well, we had talked about doing an album in its entirety a while ago. Frog Brigade did Pink Floyd’s Animals in its entirety years ago, and it was an insane amount of work but it was also incredibly gratifying. We did the Willy Wonka thing with Primus, and we’d always talked about potentially doing Hemispheres because that was my first concert, and it may have been Ler’s [LaLonde] first concert too, actually. And when it finally came down to it, we started looking at the different records and settled on Farewell to Kings.

Geddy Lee talked to Paste. He sheds some light on the state of Rush. After they wrapped up the R40 tour rumours started flying that the band is finished, because drummer Neil Peart has said that won't he hitting the road again.
Its intention was not a farewell tour; its intention was a look back and a celebration of 40 years of music. We happen to find ourselves in a very differing state of mind in terms of doing major tours. Neil is not up for the kind of work that it takes for him to be ready to put out a three-hour show the way we have for the last 20-odd years. So his interest in this kind of touring has dwindled. And that’s sort of where we’re at. It doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t do another record together, and it doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t play another concert together — it just means that for the moment we cannot agree on doing a big tour.

Three hours of Rush in concert are captured on the forthcoming Clockwork Angels Tour DVD/Blu-ray/CD. The Canadian prog rockers focused on their latest studio album that gave the tour its name, with a string section in tow in order to recreate the studio recordings. They threw in live debuts of The Body Electric and Middletown Dreams. And of course classics such as Tom Sawyer, Limelight and the sprawling 2112.
The show was was filmed and recorded last November at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, TX. The set will be released on November 19. Available on DVD/Blu-ray (Anthem/Zoe Vision/Rounder) and CD (Anthem/Roadrunner Records).
