Dutch '80s inspired rock quintet Morgendust put themselves through five days of intense rehearsals, working on new songs and figuring out how to incorporate recent songs like King of Lonely Souls, High Horse and Predators into their setlist. They have a couple shows coming up, besides further work on Planet Fiction, the third EP they will release later this year.
Dutch '80s inspired quintet Morgendust did not waste time coming up with a follow-up for their Monuments of Men, which was released only a couple of months ago. The Art of Breaking kicks off with the political lead single High Horse, an in-your-face anthem that is part satire and part serious about the worldwide rise of right-wing idiots, but the rest of the tracks are keeping it closer to home: a nameless protagonist at a party with all the other guests being lonely as well (Can't Escape) and wanting to shut out the outside world to find some peace of mind (Sunblinds).
There is a token ballad about feeling guilty and ashamed (Broke Your Heart), with keyboards acting as a string section, but they saved the best for last. Old One starts out as a gentle song that becomes powerful as the track progresses, a trick that will be familiar to Marillion fans, albeit with more adventurous percussion bits.

Dutch '80s inspired quintet Morgendust are back with a slightly rougher sound. Founding members Marco de Haan (vocals, guitars, drums) and Iwan Blokzijl (keyboards, production) and new guys Goemel van Tienhoven (guitars) and René Westra (bass) plan to release three EPs this year - the first one, Monumentsof Men, drops on March 27 - and if the new single King of Lonely Souls is an indication of what this new line-up is capable of, they have a bright future laying ahead of them. So, after releasing an EP, a few standalone singles and a covers album, they have earned enough hours of hard work to be ready for the next level: a full-length record. This self-titled album paints with broad strokes, but there is also plenty of attention to detail.

The members Dutch '80s inspired quintet Morgendust tackle songs that made a lasting impression when they were 14 years old. At that age the charts are still quite important, so all the covers were big hits back in the day and are now considered as classics. They did not go for a straight copies of the original. After all, it is next to impossible to sound like Lou Reed on Walk On The Wild Side or Kate Bush on her duet with Peter Gabriel on Don't Give Up, although guest singer Cindy Oudshoorn makes an admirable effort.
14 is not a nostalgia trip, but an inspired set of reimagined, "re-dis-covered" songs that sowed the seeds for a (side) career in music. Every band starts out playing other people's songs, before working up the nerve to write their own material. By adding a twist of their own sound Morgendust can add a few of these covers to their live set without any problem, acting as both crowd pleasers and a nod to their heroes.

A- for good intentions, B- for execution.
Sundays, the new single by Dutch Eighties inspired rockers Morgendust, is both an ode to Summer and an unnamed woman who made quite an impression. They are not afraid to channel Duran Duran, with passionate vocals and upfront percussion having a friendly row with the synths. They enlisted two backup singers, Judith Elders and Cindy Oudshoorn, to fill out the sound.
Dario Pozderski, bass player with Dutch Eighties inspired rockers Morgendust was forced to flee his country Bosnia, with only his backpack and instrument (in two pieces). He found his bearings in Zwolle, replied to an ad for a band who needed a man to hold down the bottom end. Fast forward to 2020 and two of those musicians are still with him.
Dutch quintet Morgendust are all in their mid-forties and are about to release their debut EP Storm Will Come. Tongue firmly in cheek they label themselves as a midlife rock act, a few guys who finally got around to write and record Eighties-inspired mid-tempo songs and share them with the world. All the elements are in place: swirling keyboards, a bit of echo on the guitars plus straightforward bass and drums to keep it all together.
They sing about getting older, but they are OK with that. No longer dreaming about world domination by way of music Morgendust are taking it easy. When shit happens in relationships or otherwise, they are able to wing it, pretend, and ride the wave. That is one of the perks about no being young anymore. Recommended if you like melodic powerpop with a hint of prog.
