Canadian alt-country singer-songwriter Suzanne Jarvie will be on tour in The Netherlands in December, playing songs from her latest album In The Clear: "Once again her son's near fatal head injury is a huge inspiration - it was the main subject of her on her debut album Spiral Road, but now she serves up a delicate mix of light and shade as she tries to move on. There is anger (Point Blank), melancholic longing for the past (The Core) and grief (You Shall Not Pass)".

Suzanne Jarvie: In The Clear
Canadian alt-country singer-songwriter Suzanne Jarvie is a bit more optimistic on her sophomore album In The Clear. Once again her son's near fatal head injury is a huge inspiration - it was the main subject of her on her debut album Spiral Road, but now she serves up a delicate mix of light and shade as she tries to move on. There is anger (Point Blank), melancholic longing for the past (The Core) and grief (You Shall Not Pass).
Jarvie was hurt and shocked pretty badly, but she refused to let it get the better of her. Through her music she seeks closure and healing, while she is heading for the light at the end of the tunnel. Producer Hugh Christopher Brown let her voice do the talking, on top of subdued acoustic music. With violin, piano and dobro as his instruments of choice he provided a comfortable yer intricate tapestry for the vocals.

Suzanne Jarvie: One Take Only EP, Dutch tour dates
Canadian singer-songwriter Suzanne Jarvie will be on tour in The Netherlands. She will be accompanied by her keyboard player/producer Chris Brown and Rocky Roberts on guitar and lap steel.
She recorded a special EP for the occasion, One Take Only, six intense songs about falling down and getting up. A lawyer by day and a remarkable roots artist by night Jarvie stares her demons right in the eye. It takes skill and guts to count off a song, roll tape and get it right in a single take. Recommended if you like Lucinda Williams.

Suzanne Jarvie: Spiral Road
Canadian singer-songwriter Suzanne Jarvie has been dealt with quite a few bad hands in her life. Her youngest son had to undergo heart surgery twice. Her eldest son feel down the stairs and went into a coma. The doctors told her that it was unlikely that he would wake up. But he did and it became the inspiration for the title track of her new album Spiral Road, turning her worries and hope into a beautiful song.
Jarvie's music is a mix of Americana (or more accurately: Canadiana) and old school country. Her voice is a blend of Lucinda Williams and Caroline Herring. Producer Hugh Christopher Brown made the wise decision to put her vocals right up front, like she is sitting right in front of you, surrounded by her band set up in a half circle. She signs about hardship, despair and grief, but in the end optimisms prevails in songs like Love Is Now. She is a tough lady who has been to Hell and back, with a bittersweet voice that gets under your skin.
Spiral Road is a self-released album. Buy it from her website or Bandcamp. Update: Suzanne Jarvie landed an European distribution deal via Continental Record Services.
