Robin Kester: Perspective

photo: Danique van Kesteren

Dutch artist, composer and producer Robin Kester is hesitant to be fully optimistic on her new single Perspective, but her blend of a chamber pop and danceable soft-spoken electronics is top notch. As the song progresses she speeds up a bit, eager to reach the greener pastures a bit sooner: "The moment I’ve been longing for all day // I’m on the floor, alone, unseen // And everything seems magnified from here // Except for me, I’m smaller than I used to be // But it’s just a matter of perspective"

Robin Kester: The Daylight

photo: Danique van Kesteren

Dutch artist, composer and producer Robin Kester successfully captured the feeling of believing that things might work out for the better eventually on her new single The Daylight, a subtle amalgam of chamber pop and soft-spoken electronics. Bad dreams were just that and the problems that might have kept her awake for a bit are not that big a deal, when a newfound perspective is beckoning to be taken into consideration.

Robin Kester: An Hour Per Day

photo: Danique van Kesteren

Dutch artist, composer and producer Robin Kester contemplates the fact that a solution for a job did not work out on her new single An Hour Per Day. Running into a wall at a leisurely pace - she sings softly on top of a meandering soundscape - might not be as hurtful as going at full speed, but it still sucks.

Robin Kester: Happy Sad (It's a Party)

Dutch artist, composer and producer Robin Kester is serving up an adventurous take on electro-pop on her new single Happy Sad (It's a Party). Think Tori Amos reinventing herself after a meeting with Beth Gibbons. The song is basically a one-sided conversation with an evasive signifant other, while driving home after an evening that did not live up to its promise. The video was made by Lotte Spijkers.

She would have been signed to 4AD in a heartbeat in the early 90s, but Memphis Industries got there first after the critical acclaim for her debut full-length Honeycomb Shades. Her new album Dark Sky Reserve will be released on July 13.
