Eades: Final Sirens Call

Leeds indie band Eades started out as post-punk band, but for their new album Final Sirens Call they have branched to dad rock (The Other Side of Life) and even pastoral Britpop for the title track. Getting out of their comfort zone and diving into musical history worked out rather well. Melody was always a key ingredient of their music, but now it is out in the open. They even let in a saxophone to lead the way.

Post-punk fans are served with the snarling Did You Read The News?, with ace harmonies that will make the Gallagher brothers sit up and take notice. The bravado of Madness, Pride & Poetry is further proof of their enhanced prowess. No signs of the difficult second album slump. Upwards and onwards for a band that is on a roll right now.

Eades: Outside Nothing

Leeds indie band Eades have the balls to go through various moods on their new single Outside Nothing. It starts out as a pretty straightforward post-punk song before feering into post-rock leading up to a whispering coda. It is their most ambitious and best song to date,, which bodes well for their forthcoming new album. No sign of brickwalling, but plenty of room for the instruments to breathe instead of fighting for dominance.

Eades: The Other Side of Life

Leeds indie band Eades call themselves "dad rock" right now, a self-depracating label that not quite fits their new single The Other Side of Life. The snarling vocals, the unrepenting guitars, if anything it is more Britpop with a seasoning of 60s pop, plus it is one-fingered to the music industry, who is all about content and not art nowadays. Give an act a bit of leeway to find their bearings and grow organically? Not going to happen when signed to a major. Independent labels may not have the clout to reach the public at large, but they do love music. All they need is a lucky break, but if not, they will be OK in their niche, where they will find people who go to live shows and spend money at the merch table.

Eades: "Constantly" live @ Abbey Road

Leeds garage rockers Eades had the pleasure to record two songs @ Abbey Road's Studio 3 in London. The rollicking Constantly is the second one. Devon Chambers was on hand to film it as well. It is a track from their Fight or Flight EP.

Eades: Fight or Flight

In the run up to the release of their Fight or Flight Leeds indie rock band Eades released four of the five tracks as singles, with the title track as the sole exception. Maybe they felt that the rhythmic shifts of that one might put people off. As a matter fact it is the summation of what this band is all about: dealing with emotional turmoil and taking risks.

Showing strength by embracing soft spots is not everyone, but their courage is highly commendable. Want to bet that audiences will sing along when they play the rollicking Constantly?

Eades: Loose Cliff's Edge

Leeds garage rockers Eades are quite content on their new single, Loose Cliff’s Edge, which is basically a love song for Harry Jordan's wife to be, inspired by a glorious day on a beach in Australia. They kept the gnarly guitars, with the rhythm section emulating the waves of the sea.

Eades: Constantly

Leeds garage rockers Eades go for a dirty, fuzzy sound on their single Constantly. It is a tough song about drugs and booze wreaking havoc in their immediate surroundings. As per usual there is plenty of opportunity for the audience to sing along on this one. They used a few tricks from the Oasis manual, but imitation is the best form of flattery.

Eades: "Liquid Gold" live @ Abbey Road

Leeds garage rockers Eades had the pleasure to record two songs @ Abbey Road Studio 3 in London. The chugging Liquid Gold is the first one and they had Devon Chambers on hand to film it as well. The classic slowed down section leads to a singalong finish. This song has "live encore" written all over it.

Eades: Fade Away

Leeds garage rockers Eades are back with a new single Fade Away.. The band members are a little older and a little sadder, now that settling down is part of the equation and dreams are just what they are: dreams. They take it in their stride, however, and went for "fuck it, we will do it ourselves and make it sound great on a shoestring budget". Having sense of humour plus a knack for a catchy hook and an ace melody does help, too. Don't be suprised to have the line "I feel I’m making my peace, I’ll fade away, I’ll fade away" stuck in your head for many, many hours.

Eades: "Delusion Spree" video

Leeds garage rockers Eades have made a video for their latest single, Delusion Spree: "The quintet put in a lot of work to make it sound spontaneous. As it turned out it worked best when they played it in a live setting, taking cues from their musical heroes Parquet Courts, Pixies and The Velvet Underground".

It is the title track from their forthcoming debut album due for release via Heist or Hit on March 4th (digital) and May 6th (vinyl, CD).

Eades: Reno

Leeds garage rockers Eades tell a story about violence and murder on their new single Reno. It's actually a pretty smart song, telling the tale from three different perspectives, plus a nod to the Johnny Cash Folsom Prison Blues with its most famous line referenced by an unnamed bystander: "Did you hear he got shot down in Reno? The shooter had no reason but to watch a man die". The video was made by Sam Joyce.
