The Silverbeets: Mr Brown Goes To The Cabaret

Tasmanian indie band The Silverbeets offer a special blend of psychedelic power pop on their new concept album Mr Brown Goes To The Cabaret. It follows the adventures of an enigmatic man trying to cope with everyday hassles, looking for answers in Eastern religions, trying to take it more easy, and falling in love to get away from the loneliness.

Mr Brown is obviously a troubled soul and a Hollywood ending is not in the cards. At times it seems to him that he is locked up in a prison of his own advice, craving for a bit of kindness. The Silverbeets are pulling out all the stops, hopping from one genre to the next, mirroring the protagonist's mindset by way of straight-out rock, vaudeville, surf, constructing a modern day rock opera that is filled to the rafters with smart hooks and adventurous harmonies.

Australian pysch art rock quartet The Silverbeets throw in some jazz on their new single Girlfriend, a free-flowing but carefully constructed song about break-ups that goes through hills and valleys just like real life. No matter what exactly caused the end, it sucks to be on the receiving and being labeled "as the bad guy".

Australian psych art rock quartet The Silverbeets take aim at the powers that be on their new single We Mattered (Once Upon a Time). Greed rules supreme and those who can't keep up are left behind. While the lyrics are bleak and political, they chose to wrap their message in upbeat, shifting rhythms with just a hint of ska. Based in Hobart, Tasmania, they send out a warning and a message of hope that it's not too late to turn the tables in favour of the less priviliged.
