Sven Agaath: End Of Latin

Dutch duo Sven Agaath have done it again. Gino Miniutti (vocals, guitar, keys) and Arno Breuer (drums, keys, percussion) mixed up shoegaze and grunge for their debut album Simple Field Calculator and they follow the same blueprint for most of the songs on their new one. End Of Latin is a little weirder at times - check the short instrumentals Leaving Ghost Town and the title track, and especially the superb sonic assault (and musical somersaults) during Razors.

The Pixies and Dinosaur Jr loom large when they find a monolithic backbeat and allow the other instruments to roam free. Sven Agaath are adamant to try pretty much anything to get a listener on the wrong foot. Tension is king, with a bit of release trying to fight its way in. Recommended for fans of disturbing, distorted noise rock and feedback.

Dutch shoegaton duo Sven Agaath have made a video for Parking Lot, the new single from their Simple Field Calculator album. Features I am Oak’s manin man Thijs Kuijken on backing vocals. Caveat: shout out to George Michael. The clip was made by Gino Miniutti, Martijn Bastiaans and Stefan Breuer.

Sven Agaath: Simple Field Calculator

Sven Agaath is a Dutch duo that loves to mix things up, inventing their own genres. Their latest invention is shoegaton, a mash-up of loud shoegaze and grunge with electronic dance rhythms. Gino Miniutti (vocals, guitar) and Arno Breuer (drums, MicroKORG) have turned the idea into a memorable album. Simple Field Calculator is highly entertaining and proofs once again that the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts. Short instrumentals alternate with all out moody rock songs about parking lots and heart attacks.

Shoegaton will never be a mainstream success - the general public won't be able to handle the mayhem of Helmet Youth or the distortion in King of Heart Attacks. Sven Agaath don't play by the rules, but write their own. The album will be considered as a cult classic in the near future.

New Dutch indie label: Tiny Room Records

Tiny Room Records is the brain child of Stefan Breuer, member 6-piece alternative rock band Lost Bear. Focusing on the (inter)national underground, he hopes to help artist finding a bigger or at least appreciative audience.

He kicks off with two releases on October 28: Impossible Cities, a new instrumental album by American producer and musician Todd Tobias (Robert Pollard's go-to guy as an arranger) and Simple Field Calculator by Dutch shoegaton duo Sven Agaath Shoegaton? It's a mix of shoegaze and dance rhythms.
