Randy Bachman: reunited with his Gretsch guitar after 45 years

In 1977 Randy Bachman's Gretsch guitar was stolen from his hotel room in Toronto. Canadian fan William Long tracked it down for him. He found a YouTube video by Japanese musician Takeshi playing the instrument. He agreed to give it back to Bachman, in exchange for a similar guitar. The handover took place at the Canadian embassy in Tokyo. From the AP News report:

Bachman searched and found the guitar’s “sister” — made during the same week, with a close serial number, no modifications and no repairs.

“To find my guitar again was a miracle, to find its twin sister was another miracle,” Bachman said.

TAKESHI said he decided to return the guitar because as a guitar player he could imagine how much Bachman missed it.

“I owned it and played it for only eight years and I’m extremely sad to return it now. But he has been feeling sad for 46 years, and it’s time for someone else to be sad,” TAKESHI said. “I felt sorry for this legend.”

Randy Bachman: new album "Heavy Blues" 04/15/2015

Guitarist Randy Bachman called in a few favors for this new album Heavy Blues. Guest players include fellow Canadian Neil Young, Peter Frampton, Billy Gibbons, Joe Bonamassa and Scott Holiday (Rival Sons).

The tracks for Heavy Blues were recorded with a core trio: Bachman on guitar and vocals, Anna Ruddick on bass and Dale Anne Brendan on drums. Kevin Shirley handled producer's duties. The album will be released on April 15th, 2015.

Bachman & Turner reunite for an album and tour - Overdrive not included

Randy Bachman and Fred Turner have joined forces again. They are in the studio in Winnipeg recording new songs and will be on the road in June and July. The band won't be named Bachman Turner Overdrive after the two other original members - - drummer Robbie Bachman and guitarist Blair Thornton - filed a lawsuit over the use of that name.

I remember doing a gig with Rory Gallagher. He showed up in a golf shirt and nice slacks. Before he went out to play, he grabbed his ripped jeans, his faded flannel shirt and put on old shoes, so he would look like a rock 'n' roll street guy. Gave him more cred.

Bachman Cummings: Jukebox

First a little history. When Neil Young started out on his guitar, one of his heroes was Randy Bachman, a performer who could play the Shadows instrumentals really well. Bachman would later perform with the Guess Who and of course the heavy rock group Bachman Turner Overdrive. In his Guess Who days keyboard player Burton Cummings was his right hand man and a few years back they got back together again as Bachman Cummings.

The two seasoned veterans decided it would be a good idea to go back to their roots and cut an album with the songs they grew up with and were a heavy influence on their style. So you get an obscure Beatles track from A Hard Day's Night, a raging version of Who Do You Love with Not Fade Away thrown in to make sure you understand that Buddy Holly was a big Bo Diddley fan. Bachman can show off his Hank B. Marvin licks in two Shadows tracks, Burton Cummings finally gets to play the piano part of Little Queenie and the album ends with an update of one the big Guess Who hits American Woman.
