Dutch art rock band Oh Hazar will perform as a duo on a short UK tour. Imke Loeffen and Stefan Kollee will play stripped down versions of the songs from the Clair Obscur EP: They have the hooks, the words, the breaks and the ability to string it altogether to create something very special indeed. They play with light and darkness, making it personal or political and - as a whole - pretty intense. They shun the easy routes, sprinkling dissonants, feedback and unexpected rhythmic shifts in each track."

Oh Hazar: Down
Dutch art rock band Oh Hazar picked Down, a track from their debut EPClair Obscur, as their new single. They poke fun at both the horrors and ennui that are part of life when working in an office.
The expressionistic guitar notes of Stefan Kollee mirror the mixed emotions of lead singer Imke Loeffen telling the tale of a work romance falling apart: "I called you bunny and you called me fluff // How could I’ve known that’s just not enough". A bit of the sound of De Staat crept into this one, which is hardly surprising considering that both bands are from Nijmegen.

Oh Hazar: Justice
Dutch art rock band Oh Hazar are dead serious on their new single Justice, a hard-hitting and unrelenting track about the tension between those in power and those who are left to their own devices. It is rather dark, with a few short breaks as breathers before they go all in again. Nice touch to add some echo to the last notes as the song fades out.

Oh Hazar: Clair Obscur
Few bands get it right from the get-go, but Dutch art rock band Oh Hazar ticks all the boxes on their debut EP Clair Obscur: they have the hooks, the words, the breaks and the ability to string it altogether to create something very special indeed. They play with light and darkness, making it personal or political and - as a whole - pretty intense. They shun the easy routes, sprinkling dissonants, feedback and unexpected rhythmic shifts in each track.
They name the art of the German expressionists as a major influence and it shows in their tendency to turn things upside down or twisting them in weird angles. The post-punk and industrial leanings of guitarist Stefan Kollee and drummer Imanishi Kleinmeulman give the emotions projected by lead singer Imke Loeffen an extra layer of urgency. F.N.A.S.P. is about Big tech offering freebies to anyone, but at a price: handing over your face, name, age, sex, and picture. Ivory takes a swipe at the privileged people at the top are holed up in their proverbial ivory tower and expect everyone - and more specifically women - to do their bidding. As a contrast the grief about loss is almost palpable in City Lines and in the EP's closing track The Best, a slow song telling a loved one that it is OK to let go.

Oh Hazar: City Lines
Dutch art rock band Oh Hazar explore the night while dealing with grief on their new single, City Lines. With a funky bass leading the way the song is a journey that is exhilariting and a little scary.
Producer Simon Akkermans worked his magic with a smörgåsbord of loops and synths, creating a hectic backdrop for the band to add their textures, with Imke Loeffen and Stefan Kollee sharing duties for the vocals and guitars. It is a near seamless jigsaw puzzle. Musos will have their work cut for them trying to find the cracks.

Big tech offers freebies to anyone, but it comes at a price: you have to hand over your face, name, age, sex, and picture. And yes, by doing so they are able to keep tabs on all your digital forays. Lead singer Imke Loeffen does not the carry the load of all the vocals. Stefan Kollee stepped up to the mic as well to pitch in.

Oh Hazar: Ivory
Dutch art rock band Oh Hazar takes a stand against the misuse of power in the art scene on their debut single Ivory. The privileged people at the top are holed up in their proverbial ivory tower and expect everyone - and more specifically women - to do their bidding.
Amidst a wealth of dark and abstract post-punk guitars plus a healthy dose of feedback, singer Imke Loeffen rises above the well-constructed mayhem, spitting out her accusations. If the band can keeps this up, the future looks bright for them and they will be making the rounds on the club circuit real soon. The video was directed by Poeria Abdolbaghai.
