English indie pop singer Nell Davies released a bunch of quirky singles in 2022. They were a joy to listen to, but she decided she should study the inner workings of music a bit more before making the next step. Fast forward to 2025 and six endearing tunes with a bite see the light of day on her The End of the World or Whatever EP.
Hitting the books has not taken the edge out of her craft and her wit is in full swing too, thankfully. What has changed a bit, are the arrangements and going for a fuller sound while she was at it. The basics were recorded in her old pigsty in West Penwith, after which the tweaking and smoother things were taken care of at StudiOwz in Pembrokeshire.

Getting shafted by somebody who takes over the spot of the coveted one sucks. And it sucks even more that the same mistakes are highly likely to be made again.
The video was shot in the early morning at a remote Victorian folly named Rogers Tower in Cornwall. Being on a budget meant she had to play her own twin, but it looks great nevertheless.

She went as far as to climb Ben Nevis,, Britain's highest mountain in Scotland - quite a long from Cornwall where she lives - but she could not stop mulling over stupid comments on Facebook and being both homesick and travel sick. The mind can be a funny thing.

British singer-songwriter Nell Davies has a knack for coming up with catchy, sunny side up songs. Her latest Happy Birthday is no exception, wishing the unnamed birthday boy to come across a nice cat to pat and that pigeons will drop their load on his enemy. There are traces of Tracey Ullman in her vocals, which fit the tongue-in-cheek lyrics perfectly. With a nice janggling guitar hook as an added bonus, this DIY effort is utterly charming. Comes with a homemade video with a rainbow, balloons, and a small airplane.
