Lian Ray: Social Distancing Tour on Instagram

Now that his Dutch tour is cancelled, French pop noir singer Lian Ray will be playing his album Rose in full from the comfort of his own home. The Social Distancing Tour can be streamed via his Instagram on March 24th, 26th and 29th at 8pm CET (Amsterdam Time):

I will play my album Rose in full, in its original order, acoustic live from my apartment - with the help of some mellotron samples and backing tracks to have it as close as possible to the original.
This is going to be very special and I look forward to romance you all through these congested fiberoptic pipes. (thank you Netflix).

Lian Ray: Rose

photo: Maarten Boswijk

French singer-songwriter Lian Ray's new album Rose is based on a true story: his own life, with a love lost and regained, going down the drain with crippling substance abuse, endless delays and coming close to abandoning the project altogether more than once. Recorded in 2013 it finally sees the light of day and it has been well worth the wait: glorious pastoral pop noir that has the power to comfort and transcend.

Ray shines with new found confidence, still fragile, but in control now that he reunited with the love of his life. Rose served as his means of therapy, quite painful at times facing his demons, but with a Hollywood ending that seemed impossible when he started out.

Not sure if she is serious of that she is just messing with him: "Can I play with you / Can I hurt you too?" He is in pain, but there is also a glimmer of hope. Spoiler: the album is about reconnecting with his big love, so after being down and out there is a happy ending to his arduous journey through heartbreak and life-threatening addiction.

Lian Ray: Maps

French singer-songwriter Lian Ray has unveiled the third single from his upcoming debut album Rose, out on November 22 via Snowstar Records. While all the songs on this albums are about a relationship going South, Maps is the exception to the rule. After coming out of drug rehab, he picked up the pieces and reconnected with the woman that is the subject of his plea ("If you wait for me, I promise I’ll make it up to you”). Lo and behold, that actually worked out fine, and they are still together to this day.

Lian Ray: Rose

French singer-songwriter Lian Ray was having a rocky relationship with a woman named Rose when he was living in Berlin. They broke up, leaving him with a broken heart, but also with the inspiration to write a magnificent melancholic pop song a la Serge Gainsbourg. He recorded it in 2013, but will it be finally released as the title track of his debut album, out on November 22 via Snowstar Records (vinyl, CD, digital). He made the video himself, using a Huawei P30 Pro phone.

Lian Ray: Mateo

French singer-songwriter Lian Ray now calls Amsterdam home after living in Berlin for some time trying to get away from his demons. That did not quite work out as planned, but it inspired him to record dark, nocturnal pop songs. He signed with Dutch indie Label Snowstar Records. Mateo is his first single, a slice of baroque pop a la Jacco Gardner and Echo & the Bunnymen.
