Lemmy statue in Burslem

It looks like the plans for a statue for Lemmy Kilmister in his birthplace Burslem will become a reality. It will depict him playing bass guitar, singing up towards a raised microphone, the signature pose of the Motörhead frontman. From the BBC:

Plans for the statue in Burslem were given the go-ahead, despite concerns from police about the potential for “good-natured but potentially incident generating attention”.

The 2.25m bronze sculpture is set to be erected in Market Place in the town, once funding is secured.

It will be made from Staffordshire clay and designed by renowned local sculptor Andy Edwards, who is perhaps best-known for his statues of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor at Derby County FC and The Beatles on Liverpool's Pier Head.

Cover Me: Substitute

The Ramones released the covers album Acid Eaters in 1993 and it's not exactly a highlight in their discography. Their version of The Who classic Substitute is not so bad and the video is fun to watch. Introduction by Cramps singer Lux Interior as a demented scientist. Lemmy is in it too, being himself, because no one can play Lemmy.

One year ago badass bass player Lemmy died. The best way to remember him is to play his music really fucking loud: "We are Motörhead. We play rock 'n' roll".

Lemmy on German stamps

Deutsche Post and German tabloid Bild are honoring Motörhead frontman Lemmy with a set of stamps. The Germans loved Lemmy, so that makes sense. And of course, Lemmy was an avid collector of WWII memorabilia.

The Memorial Service in Los Angeles for Lemmy, the loudest bass player to walk the face of the Earth, will be streamed live on YouTube today. Starts at 3PM (PST):

Lemmy: 1945-2015

Lemmy has left the planet. The epitome of rock 'n' roll succumbed to cancer. From the Motörhead Facebook page:

There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.

We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.

We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.

Have a drink or few. Share stories.

Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.
