La Loye: To Live Underwater

With the release of her latest single, About Imagining Things, Dutch alt-folk singer Lieke Heusinkveld, has completed the journey that started two years ago, culminating in the release of her debut EP, To Live Underwater, a collection of soft-spoken songs about getting hurt and coming out on top.

Heusinkveld, who goes by the La Loye, uses electronics as the foundation for her songs, with percolating percussion parts as the counterpart for dreamy acoustic guitar and wavering vocals delivering lyrics that pack a punch. Walking away from a relation can be a good thing (I Only Hear You In My Song) and she is obviously not a fan of superficial interactions in the sun (White Summer).

La Loye: White Summer

Dutch alt-folk singer Lieke Heusinkveld, who goes by the La Loye, has been lying low for awhile, recording the tracks for her debut EP, due for release on November 11th. Lead single White Summer is not an ode to that popular season of which she is obviously not a fan. For her it often feels she is surrounded by a white fog, making it difficult to interact with other people. Soft spoken lo-fi, haunting melancholy that is quite intense.

La Loye: I Only Hear You In My Song

Dutch alt-folk singer Lieke Heusinkveld, who goes by the stage name La Loye, channels Elliot Smith Nick Drake on her new single I Only Hear You In My Song, an exploration about the ending of a love affair. It turns out that the break does not hurt as much as she was afraid before hand. The decision to walk away is actually liberating.

Dutch alt-folk singer Lieke Heusinkveld, who goes by the stage name La Loye, has released her single I’m Still Asleep, a carefully crafted dreamy song with nods to bedroom pop, English brass, and experimental soundscapes. She finds herself in a flux, wanting to hang out with her friends, but on second thought being alone for awhile has its perks too.
