R.E.M. : live @ Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ - 9 June 1984

Watch a pro-shot early R.E.M. show filmed @ Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ on June 9, 1984. After kicking off with The Velvet Underground cover Pale Blue Eyes they played songs from their first two albums and their debut EP. A couple of very famous guests join them during the second all covers encore. Roger McGuinn nailed his parts, while John Sebastian was obviously having fun, but came up short in the end.

It was broadcast on 17 July 1984 as an MTV special Rock Influences: Folk Rock.

Brighton band 40 Shillings on the Drum have made a video for their latest single Mean Streets (Born in the Same Gutter): "Quite refreshing, with hints of The Clash in their prime, bookended by two suprisingly gentle piano bits. Somewhere Pete Shelley and John Peel are hearing this and are high-fiving each other."

Punk-rock and some politics are the main ingredients of the new Mean Streets (Born in the Same Gutter) single from Brighton band 40 Shillings on the Drum. With a far more complex melody than is usually associated with their chosen genre, they point an accusing finger to the powers that be as well as themselves as being part of the problem.

Quite refreshing, with hints of The Clash in their prime, bookended by two suprisingly gentle piano bits. Somewhere Pete Shelley and John Peel are hearing this and are high-fiving each other.
