Tim Eveleigh: Life Is Not A Competition

English musician Tim Eveleigh is back with Life Is Not A Competition, a quick follow-up for his debut album A Record. As "as just another middle-class bloke-with-a-guitar" he could have bought a motorbike or hit the gym and fucked up his back instead, but he stuck to music. He is trying to make sense of where he is in life right now, so the subject matter of his lyrics is highly personal. There are alos some well-meant forays into mild pontificating about waste (the hilarious Enough), and anger, with the sole track he did not write, Rage In The Darkness by his accomplice Andy Thornton.

Eveleigh's take on power pop with a side order of folk is brutally honest, nurses the scars that life has inflicted on him, as well as counting his blessings. It all comes together in the call-and-response of Timeline, a hymn-like song that names hope as the thing that keeps him going, when he tries to navigate around another spot of bother. Life is not a competition indeed, but he will to have play, even though he might not be a fan of the rules and unfair odds.
