Opus Kink: My Eyes, Brother!

photo: Will Reid

Brighton based sextet Opus Kink had already released three singles - Dust, 1 -18 and Children - from their new My Eyes, Brother! EP, so it's not too unlikely to conclude they might have peaked too soon. Nope, they saved the best for last.

They kick off with Chains, will which surely be embraced by fans of Tom Waits and Ian Dury, with its heady mix of vaudeville and New Wave. The off-kilter, slow moving Malarkey, preceded by the decidedly odd short instrumental Tin of Piss, comes with a glorious mangled guitar part and a sexy bass motif, and it gives lead singer Angus Rogers a change to let rip. Which leaves Piping Angels as the last new song. And guess what? That one brings punk to James Bond-theme song.

Opus Kink :
Angus Rogers: lead vocals, guitars
Sam Abbo: bass, backing vocals
Fin Abbo: drums, percussion
Jazz Pope: keys, synth, backing vocals
Jack Banjo Courtney: trumpet
Jed Morgans: saxophone
