Springsteen single

Hey, pssst. Bruce Springsteen has a new single. Does it suck? Maybe just a little bit.

With its quiet acoustic strum, "Devils and Dust" sounds a little like last decade's "Dead Man Walking", but the new song isn't issue-specific or openly partisan, even as it strikes up a conversation with Bob (Dylan, presumably) and deploys Dust Bowl imagery to evoke our scorched social landscape. Springsteen isn't trying outright to unsettle any of his fans who don't share his worldview, but rather to infiltrate their SUVs with a general foreboding and a message they might not agree with but will listen to 'cause it's Bruce.
