Trip to Dover: Fade Into Gold

Dutch electronic rock duo Trip to Dover go for an in-your-face sound on their new record Fade Into Gold. Preceded by two singles - Boy and I'll Be Juillet - it now becomes clear that the predominant theme of the album is grief. They could have crawled into a corner only to emerge with a set of soft-spoken songs, but Olga and Johannes Taal go for the exact opposite. They looked their demons in the eyes and decided to scare them off with a bunch of uptempo songs that celebrate life and commemorate their loved ones with defiant songs like The Birth Of A Hero and the title track.

Producer Martijn Groeneveld was on board to guide them to a dark, yet catchy overall sound - which is pretty rare in their niche. And what if they had gone for the aforementioned intimate approach? The acoustic "backstage" version of Boy offers a glimpse of what could have been. Pretty cool to hear, but it's the synth driven New Wave meets dance sound of the Eighties that makes Trip to Dover one of Holland's most interesting underground acts.

Trip to Dover: I'll Be Juliet

Dutch electronic rock duo Trip to Dover have made a video for I'll Be Juliet, a track from their new EP Fade Into Gold, which will released thru Final 500 Records, a vinyl club from Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies.

I'll Be Juliet channels the synth driven New Wave meets dance sound of the Eighties acts like Yazoo and contemporary bands like The Killers. Olga and Johannes Taal hired Martijn Groeneveld to handle the production, which might explain the dark rock vibe of the track.

Trip to Dover: Boy

Dutch electronic rock Trip to Dover's new single Boy is an energetic song about a guy who chooses to ignore premature warnings, taking his changes that he will fly, not fall. Olga and Johannes Taal love the synth sounds of the Eighties and play up a storm, projecting a far larger band with just the two of them. The accompanying video was directed by Eric Nagel.

Trip to Dover: Kiss Fight Dance

Dutch electronic rock duo Trip to Dover created an interesting hybrid of styles on their 2013 EP Vegas & Berlin, mixing Eighties synths power pop with hard rock. Olga and Johannes Taal offer more of the same on Kiss Fight Dance, an EP with three new tracks filled out with a couple of interesting remixes.

Once again they have succeeded creating kick-ass dance rock on a shoestring budget. The monolithic Monochrome is the most memorable of the new songs, while lead single Lifelong Lovesong (available a a free download from website) already picked up considerable airplay. Trip to Dover have a big sound that deserves bigger rooms.

Trip to Dover: Vegas & Berlin

Olga and Johannes Taal are Trip to Dover, a Dutch electronic rock duo whose tastes are meeting halfway: hard rock and Eighties synth pop. They name the Foo Figthers and Moby as their influences, a heady mix that brings back the heyday of bands like Propaganda and Roxette. Olga has a voice to match the sound of her Gibson guitar, while Johannes plays up a storm on keyboards.

They are first and foremost a live band (with an added bass player and drummer), playing shows in the UK, the USA and Germany before setting their sights on their native country. The 5-track EP Vegas & Berlin is now finally released in The Netherlands. Energetic power rock that should take them to bigger venues in the near future.
