Starar: Summit EP

After releasing the Unbelievable and Renegade Heart singles, UK indie duo Starar have added two fresh tracks to make it a proper EP.

Truth be told that those two new tracks aren't as good as the singles were. For The Water shows lots of promise in the opening bars, with a lonely saxophone and some early Seventies Pink Floyd pastoral noodling but the song itself is rather bland plus far to much effects on the vocals. Summit, the title track, has a nice melody but is brought down by a heap of "production values" and filters. They should have quit tinkering with the tracks - odds are that the original demos sounded much better.

Starar: Renegade Heart

UK indie electronic duo Starar used a cornucopia of sounds for their new single Renegade Heart. Singer Jenna Starar and multi-instrumentalist Steven Starar have been fiddling with the volume controls like there was no tomorrow. A bit of pop, a bit of funk and quite a bit of stop-and-start synth New Wave clamor for attention. Quite a chance of pace after the rather mellow Uubelievable.

Starar: Unbelievable

Indie duo Starar tip their toes in the mainstream with their new single Unbelievable. Singer Jenna Starar and multi-instrumentalist Steven Starar have come with a soft-spoken shoegaze song with a meandering backbeat. The levels are a bit off, but that only adds to the charm.
