Star & Micey: PledgeMusic campaign for new album "Get 'Em Next Time"

Soulful roots rockers Star & Micey >PledgeMusic campaign to raise funds for their new full-length Get 'Em Next Time.

The Music of Memphis is blind to color and deaf to age. In the immortal words of “Daddy-O” Dewey Phillips, it’s “good music for good people”. Our new record is meant to be just the same: an honest reflection of our hearts and souls as we wade through the often wild currents of this imperfect journey. Like the river that never sleeps, these songs will carry our stories through time.

We want you to be a part of this story. After a month long adventure down in Georgia with our friend Mark Neill, we are beyond excited to have nearly completed our first full length record in 6 years! The only thing missing, is your counsel. Your Pledge is a ballot. The choices you make will decide the direction of our artwork, Pledge exclusive recordings, music video concepts, poster and t shirt designs, as well our everyday destiny.

Lend your voice to the enduring fable of our River City.Together with your grant, we set the course, push off and it’s full steam ahead.

Star & Micey: Dockside Demos EP Star & Micey:

Memphis folk soul band Star & Micey have upped yet another freebie. The Dockside Demos EP contains four songs that weren't included on their self-titled debut album.

They sound pretty smooth and it makes you wonder why a track like Taylor was shelved. I Love You on the other hand is a bit too schmaltzy, not unlike the Alessi Brothers, but sung in a lower register.

Star & Micey: Dockside Demos Tracks:
  1. There Is A Love (Demo)
  2. I Think So (Demo)
  3. I Love You (Demo)
  4. Taylor (Demo)

HCTF review of Star & Micey.

Star & Micey: Star & Micey

Star & Micey are a Memphis band that sound like vintage folk soul group of the early Seventies. Geoff Smith and Joshua Cosby are childhood friends and when Josh ran into Nick Redmond on a songwriters night they decided to start a band. They took their name for their band from a change meeting between Josh and a homeless guy named Star who sung Josh songs about Star's ex-wife, Micey.

Their self-titled debut is a sad record that sounds cheerful. They laid down the tracks at Ardent Studios, a facility renowned for great recordings by Isaac Hayes, The White Stripes and Led Zeppelin. Inviting a host of guests to play along with them Cosby sings about the women who have let him down over the years. With Luther Dickinson (The Black Crowes, North Mississippi Allstars) and Jody Stephens (Big Star) lending a hand they can reach for the stars. They have the melodies and the lyrics - all they need is a big break.

Star & Micey:
Joshua Cosby: guitar, lead vocals
Geoff Smith: bass, vocals
Nick Redmond: lead guitar

Doug Walker joins them on stage to play organ and keyboards.
