Anil Prasad interviewed keyboardist Richard Barbieri for his Innerviews website about Japan, Porcupine Tree, his solo career and his latest album Hauntings:

I’m always searching for that little spark that lights the flame and leads the way. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I’ve been a lot more introspective and thinking about things. Also, this has to do with my age and the kind of career I’ve had. I look back a lot and try to make sense of things, and I do tend to internalize.

I realized I was quite obsessed with this nostalgic feeling I had for things, and not just for things that happened, but for things that didn’t happen. They would get into my dreams as recurring events, places, and characters. It got me thinking about reality and how much of it is real.

Porcupine Tree: interview on Heavy1 Radio

French alternative radio station Heavy1 has an interview Porcupine Tree's Richard Barbieri and Steven Wilson. They will play a few Summer festivals next year. So far, only a show in Manchester has been confirmed.

The folks of German guitar gear site Bonedo talked with Steven Wilson and Richard Barbieri about the making of the new Porcupine Tree album. The three parts (1, 2, 3) can be found on their YouTube Channel.

Watch Richard Barbieri talking about keyboards he used on the new Porcupine Tree album Closure / Continuation. He uses a lot of old school analog synths, including a rebuild version of the Prophet-5. Since he is not a very technical player, he relies on the controls to create the sounds he wants and needs for his soundscapes.

Blurring parts is a huge part of his ambient approach. Listening to badly tuned radio when he was a kid - listening to two songs at the same time - and Brian Eno's work with Roxy Music are his main influences.

Closure / Continuation will be released in a wealth of formats on 24th June 2022.
