LA queer pop band Rat Fancy are down to a duo and they did some house cleaning for a (digital) deluxe edition of their 2019 album Stay Cool, adding ten barebones demos. It is nice to have them, as an opportunity to be a fly on the wall during the recording proces, but they are by no means essential, with the guitar and vocals only version of Stuck With You as the sole exception.

Rat Fancy: tour dates

LA indie band Rat Fancy are on the road in their home state California to promote their Stay Cool album: "They can tell short story within the space of a couple of minutes and they could have picked any of the tracks as a single. If you are looking for something to play after spinning The Breeders or The Slits, Stay Cool should be near the top of the list".

Rat Fancy: Stay Cool
LA indie band Rat Fancy touch base with a handful of first world problems (and some real ones) on their debut full-length Stay Cool. It sucks staring at a tattoo that is a reminder of an ill-fated love affair (Stuck With You) and there eis the hassle of picking the right kind of clothes and attitude or be ousted from the circle of fashionable friends. Thankfully all of it presented with tongue-in-cheek lyrics, embedded in glorious rambling garage rock.

Rat Fancy: Suck A Lemon
LA indie trio Rat Fancy sing sweet songs about sour things on their debut EP Suck A Lemon. Ranging from typical first world problems like I Can't Dance To The Smiths Anymore, a tribute to the cult TV series about the paranormal Beyond Belief and the bittersweet love song About You, the band has an almost childlike innocence.
They couldn't care less if the listeners are able to keep up with them, let alone agree with their lyrics. The title track sums it all up perfectly and is offered as a fast and slowed down version. They have found a way to sound confident about feeling insecure by talking elements from psychedelica, shoegaze and Sixties West Coast and turn it into Lo-fi bedroom recorded pop at its finest.

HCTF premiere: Rat Fancy - Beyond Belief
LA indie trio Rat Fancy took bits of psychedelica, shoegaze and Sixties West Coast pop to create Beyond Belief, the lead single from their forthcoming Suck A Lemon EP. The song is named after TV series about the paranormal. While is perfectly understandable to be very, very sceptical about that kind of shows, the music can stand on its own. A dead ringer for a lady Summer mixtape.
Suck A Lemon will be released thru Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records. Release date: May 28th.

Rat Fancy: "You Stole My Xmas Sweater” b/w “Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight)”
Los Angeles is mostly associated with sun, surf and fun. Like all popular tags it doesn't hold up after closer inspection. There is a dark side and local bands have tapped into that. Rat Fancy, a new trio formed by guitarist/vocalist Diana Barraza (ex Sweater Girls), guitarist Gregory Johnson and drummer Gavin Glidewell, will release their debut EP Suck A Lemon in early 2017 on Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records.
As a taster for their sound, rambling shoegaze indie rock, they have made a XMAS single: the tongue-in-cheek original You Stole My Xmas Sweater coupled with a cover of the Ramones classic Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight).
