Nausicaa: Death of a Memory

Australian dreampop duo Nausicaa have managed to bottle sadness and loss on their new single Death of a Memory. Guitarist Dave Haack has added synths to his usical arsenal to create a canvas not unlike the ones that were pioneered by Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance. Singer Kristen Hodgson foregoes her signature whispered delivery to make the pain almost palpable: "Oh please I know something’s missing // Can’t show the film and cut out a crucial scene // Is this how it feels when a memory dies? // Is this how it feels to lose part of the sky?"

Australian dreampop duo Nausicaa are looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle on their new single Crystalline to fully enjoy new found love. Guitarist Dave Haack weaves a tapestry of slow moving notes, a Summer breeze set to music. Singer Kristen Hodgson's whispered vocals should go down well with fans of Dead Can Dance and Cocteau Twins "Turn my love // Into mirrored pieces// Like all the stars // That hold your heart together".

Nausicaa: Moth to Flame

Australian dreampop duo Nausicaa go for repetition on on their second single, Moth to Flame. By playing the same notes over and over again Dave Haack created a transcedent tapestry for singer Kristen Hodgson to fall back on, as she glides through the lyrics, slowly making her way to her destination. The video was made by their friend Jo, who came up with a stylish play of light and shade.

Nausicaa: Night Vision

Australian dreampop duo Nausicaa go slow on their debut single, Night Vision, with a gentle acoustic guitar providing the backbone for the shimmering vocals. Naming the works of Federico Garcia Lorca and Rainer Maria Rilke as sources for inspiration they would have been a perfect fit for the 4AD roster in the late '80s.

The night always seems to offer more possibilities and dreams might become real. Singer Kristen Hodgson and guitarist Dave Haack have captured that mood rather well. They filmed the promo video during a foggy evening in their hometown Melbourne, a spot of luck to have Mother Nature taking care of most of the lightning design.
