Mantra Vega, a prog collaborative with Heather Findlay and Dave Kerzner as the core members, will celebrate the release of their debut album on January 23 at The Lion Inn in Blakey Ridge, Kirbymoorside. Tickets include dinner, album signing and intimate acoustic performance.
The melodic prog outfit piut out the Island single earlier this year, a mixed bag of varying quality as if they were still plotting a proper course. On paper the line-up looks pretty impressive though.
Mantra Vega is a collaborative effort by veterans of the melodic prog rock scene. The core is made up by Heather Findlay and Dave Kerzner. Their debut single Island serves as a taste for their forthcoming debut album The Illusion’s Reckoning.
It is tempting to write them off as neo-hippie fodder, but the musical backing provided by an ace trio of musicians pulls the song safely ashore. The other tracks are more classic prog. Mountain Spring features a Tony Band-inspired keyboard sound and Every Corner is rather New Age-y, telling a story about the concepts of time and infinity on top of a tinkling backdrop.
