Live dates:Tuscon based alternative rockers La Cerca have been sitting on a shimmering track for years. Gimme Some Myrrh came into a world as a solo acoustic showcase for Love as Laughter singer Sam Jayne, a dear friend of the band's frontman Andrew Gardner. When Jayne passed away, they decided to record the song and turn it into a touching send-off. Pushed gently forward by a swirling shoegaze guitar the band locks into a slow, dreamy groove, that keeps lingering long after it has finished playing.
HCTF's annual list of the 20 albums that will be in regular rotation for many years to come. As per usual many genres are represented. This blog covers a lot of ground and it shows in this eclectic, final tally.

Please shop at your local record store. Most of them have a website where you can order your stuff. Buy directly from the artist, attend live shows when it's safe to do so again. Educate your friends. Word-of-mouth can't be beat as the prime source to discover new music.
Tuscon based alternative rockers La Cerca have changed course (and line-ups) quite a few times. Still, even for longtime followers of the band it comes as a surprise to see them releasing A Nice Sweet Getaway, a full-on, dark ambient album. They even used a basic two-track recording device, and had to cope with the limitations that came along with it.
Echo, delay and reverb were put to good use to create an atmosphere that is not particularly safe or soothing. They point to the dangers that are hiding in the great wide open, with pulsating rhythms and swaths of guitar that are both welcoming and issuing a warning. A Nice Sweet Getaway flows as a continious piece of music and should be enjoyed as such. This kind of music does not allow outside interference, so better disconnect the phone and other things that can break the spell.
Tuscon based alternative rockers La Cerca have reinvented themselves with an ambient album, A Nice Sweet Getaway, with touches of post-rock and heavy use of delay. The Gloomy Vista Way single, with its drawn out guitar chords, is part Ry Cooder and part Brian Eno. A sense of foreboding that something bad is about to happen is almost tangible, but as long as it sounds this good, that's not a problem. The video was directed by Jason Marrano.

On August 4th rock band La Cerca paid a visit to the Joonior Studios in Seattle, WA. Owner Chris Matthews Jr was on hand to film the band performing Arizon and Climate Control, two songs from their Sunrise for Everyone album.

Alternative rock band La Cerca have through a lot since they were founded more than a decade ago. Band members came and went, styles were adopted and discarded, but it seems that have finally on their core business: playing smart college rock that was all the rage in the nineties. Their new full-length Sunrise for Everyone is a guitar album first and a bunch of stories inspired by their hometown Tucson, AZ second. The band's lead singer and songwriter Andrew Gardner just loves meteorological metaphors.
La Cerca can be succinct (Arizon, Sorry XO), but they can go long form when mood strikes them and if it fits the song (Climate Control, Weather Festival - with a nod to the Undertones). They close up shop with the sprawling Mountain Villager which takes up half of side 2 with its exploring jangly guitar workouts and stream of consciousness vocals. Don't be surprised when they take it even further on stage. Recommended if you like early REM, Big Star and Teenage Fanclub.
