Kevin Robertson: Yellow Painted Moon

Scottish musician Kevin Robertson is an optimist, who has imported the 60s sound of the US West Coast into his bedroom folk music. His new album Yellow Painted Moon is a family affair with his son Scott Robertson, who happens to be a multi-instrumentalist as well, harmonising on the Byrds-inspired vocal part. American Nick Bertling was by no means a third wheel watching the quick one-two's during the recording sessions, throwing in his weight from his studio in Indiana as yet another multi-instrumentalist with his own sound.

Yellow Painted Moon is a low budget power pop record, catering to people who care about ace melodies and a bit of clever wordplay. The three musicians made a true connection, even with the Atlantic Ocean between them. It is all about careful listening and looking for a spot to bring a song to the next level. Those subtleties and nuances, and blink-an-you'll-miss-it moments as each one of them latches upon an opportunity to take charge, make it a listening experience that gets better and better after hitting repeat.

Kevin Robertson: Of The Night

Kevin Robertson, singer and guitarist and one-fifth of Scottish band The Vapour Trails, found the time for another solo single, Of The Night. Multi-instrumentalist Nick Bertling came on board for a smattering of country, playing slide guitar. He also brought his melodica, which is as far away from rock 'n' roll as you can get, but in this case it worked like a charm. Tailor made for playing loud while enjoying a few cold ones down at the pub.

Kevin Robertson: Magic Spells Abound

Kevin Robertson, singer and guitarist and one-fifth of Scottish band The Vapour Trails, goes out on his own again with Magic Spells Abound, nine songs channeling the jangling sound of the Byrds, British folk, and early 70s power pop bands. He is looking on the bright side of things, a dreamer who is sure that the odds for a happy ending are in his favour.

With the call-and-response vocals in The Crest of A Dream, Cloak and Dagger and Wander On he surely will find his way into a countless Summer playlists. It is all been done before, but Robertson throws in plenty of twists and turns to keep it interesting. Guitarists will appreciate the weaving and the crystal clear tone.
