KATVALY: Speedfall (discombobulation pop mix)

English funky electronic band KATVALY have gone back to Speedfall, one of the tracks from their Beeta V album. This "discombobulation pop mix" is rather gnarly and distorted at times, aimed at people who listen to music - the horror - through the crap speakers of their phone. Try it, and be pleasantly surprised.

English funky electronic band KATVALY is a family affair, with three O'Hallorans teaming up with bass player Lee W Smith for a journey through Krautrock, jazz, dance and post-punk. Their debut album Beeta V is all about textures, a throwback to the 80s when technology began to supersede the use of "proper" instruments. It is a logical step singer and multi-instrumentalist Glenn O'Halloran who had already cut his teeth on this kind of music with the Petals Nails album by his Dogzen Zendog project.

Taking of the constraints of music genres and mixing them up to create something fresh yet familiar, is no mean feat. Beeta V is an album that is way over the head of casual listeners - althought they might enjoy it as such - while hardcore music geeks have their work cut for them to dissect what is going on. It is a puzzle you can dance too, a kaleidoscopic trip into a dream land where music is allowed to roam free.

KATVALY: Stained but free

English funky electronic band KATVALY are optimistic in an age where it is not exactly fashionable on their new single Stained but free. Singer Glenn O'Halloran is well-versed in human rights and the need for protest to keep them safe and in the public's eye. Against all odds, he is convinced that love will persevere in the end. It is a heartfelt plea on top of a slow dance beat and swirling synths.

KATVALY: Paper Scissors Stone

English funky electronic band KATVALY features some familiar names from Glenn O'Halloran's Dogzen Zendog project. The debut single Paper Scissors Stone finds them exploring the middle ground between Krautrock, jazz-infused post-rock, and early 80s art-rock.

O'Halloran's devil may care vocals pushes the song gentle forward, giving it a relaxed kind of swing that will appeal to dressed in black music fans of all ages.
