Borka Balogh: "Hollow" video

Watch the new Borka Balogh video for Hollow, a track from her self-titled full-length. The clip was made by Ryan Lambert. "Her vocal style might put some people off - she doesn't hit the notes, but approaches them gradually. This is quite common in folk music, and it forces the listener to take note of the lyrical content."

Borka Balogh: Borka Balogh

Amsterdam based Hungarian indie folk singer Borka Balogh took her time compiling the songs for her self-titled full-length, the follow-up for her Traces Of You. Preceded by an handful of singles it all comes all together as a record that is mostly about family and relationships in general. She focuses on the darker side, but a some degree of understanding about why people act like the do ia in there as well.

Her vocal style might put some people off - she doesn't hit the notes, but approaches them gradually. This is quite common in folk music, and it forces the listener to take note of the lyrical content. The dreamy Unsaid Words and the quiet defiance of Odd One Out show that her confidence as lyricist has grown.

Borka Balogh: Traces Of You

Hungarian indie folk singer Borka Balogh moved to Amsterdam a couple of years ago and turned some heads with her debut single Let This Be The Last Song. Her first EP Traces Of You finds her expanding her musical palette, with hints of vaudeville (Prague and chamber pop (The Disappearance Of Our Spotless Love) and straight up English folk (About A Warrior).

Her dreamy voice is always smack in the middle of the mix, with the musicians sounding like they were set up in a circle around her. The keyword for her music is delicate. Serious folk fans should own this.
