Age of Life: Emergence, Pt. 1

You can think big and you can think really big. German musician Chris Burda, half of post-rock duo Collapse Under The Empire, has tried to capture the story of the evolution of life on planet Earth by writing cinematic synth-driven pieces about notable geological periods, to be released on two albums. Naming his solo project Age of Life he realised that such an undertaking could be a lot to take in, so the first album will be available shortly, while the second one will see the light of day in 2027.

Emergence, Pt. 1 deals with the early stages of life, which started out as unicellular living organisms that became more in the Cambrian era. The continents were adrift - they never stopped - and the first signs of consciousness popped up. Nature had to compete with unfair odds and life was nearly wiped out more than once. Burda took a bird's eye to all that, cherry picking from the highs and lows..

Age of Life: Carbon Bloom

German musician Chris Burda, half of post-rock duo Collapse Under The Empire, has shared a video for Carbon Bloom, the closing piece of the first part of ambitious cinematic post-rock double album Emergence / Transformation by his Age of Life project.

With this composition he has created a widescreen vision of life on Earth in its early stages, combining progressive and post-rock on top of synth driven percussive flow.

Age of Life: Epoch One

German musician Chris Burda, half of post-rock duo Collapse Under The Empire, has shared Epoch One, the first piece of his ambitious cinematic post-rock double album Emergence / Transformation by his Age of Life project, which will be released as two separate albums. Each track will be dedicated to evolutionary era, covering the 500+ million years that life has been roaming the planet.

His knack for writing cinematic, pulsating instrumentals enabled him to come up with a synth-driven piece that evolves slowly, feeling its way and becoming more complex as the track progresses, just like primitive life goes through the stages to the next level.
