A Kickstarter campaign has been launched to release Johnny Dowd's Pictures From Life's Other Side album on vinyl. It will be a 2LP with the full album, plus newly recorded acoustic versions on Side 4:
Have I got to the point in my musical life when I should look back and see how I got from there to here? Or put another way-is progress being made? The answer to both these questions is NO, but here I am putting out a reissue of my second record Pictures from Life's Other Side.
Feeling one way and acting another has never been a problem for me. Practice what you preach-why? Anyway, I had to listen to the record for the first time in maybe 30 years and I believe it still holds up. Like a picture taken on vacation, it feels like someone else's memory. I've been relearning all the songs on banjo and that feels right as rain.
Speaking of the past, the three first albums I bought were “Ray Conniff Singers,” Live at the Apollo”, and “Pictures from Life's Other Side”. The first taught me arrangements, the second showed me emotion and the third I've been ripping off ever since. I would like to do an album featuring Nelson Riddle type string arrangements.
Later on that. Right now I'm trying to raise cash to put this Pictures album out on vinyl. Double album. The fourth side probably will be some acoustic cover versions of songs I've written. So unless your baby needs new shoes, send me a little and let's make this happen!!!
The aim is to raise €10.000 (€1430 pledged so far, with 31 days to go).
Note: shipping costs are a bit shifty these days and will be calculated around the time the album is there. It will also available for pick-up at his 2027 tour in the UK and the Netherlands in April 2027.
