Brooklyn based musician Johnny Leitera kicked a rat when he came out of his apartment building. He did not give it much thought at first, but it dawned on him that the rodent might be dreaming about having a better life outside the big city, not unlike the wish he also has to escape the (pun intended) rat race. Aren't humans not also being treated like that unfortunate rodent? Why not turn it into a song for his Tuff Sunshine project? Flat Rat is a gentle swaying rocker about trying to cope, while searching fruitlessly for some piece of mind. His vocal delivery comes close to spoken word, giving the lyrics an urgency that would have been lost if he had gone for some actual singing.
