English musician Matt Saxton first shared his pain and doubt, and ultimately overcoming his relationship issues, with his It's Only Now That I Know album. Some of this has found its way again on his new one, Feel It Again, with the title track and Rough Patch as the stand-out examples. Now that things have got better he branched out subject-wise. There is a song about of wanting to read in bed all day (Lost Between The Covers) and one for his grandfather who fought in the Second World War (Unknown Soldier), but did not want to talk about it.
Navigating between folk, blues, jazz and a bit of country, Saxton has the knack to make it seem that he is singing only for you. Intimacy is key, with his rough-around-the-edges vocals smack in the middle of the mix. This is an album that should be enjoyed as a whole, half an hour of quality music as the equivalent of a comfy blanket when it is cold outside.
