Life of the Record is a podcast dedicated the making of classic albums. The creators go in at the deep end and talk to people who made them: musicians, engineers, producers.
The latest episode is called The Making Of #1 Record By Big Star and features the band's drummer Jody Stephens, engineer/keyboardist Terry Manning, author Holly George-Warren (A Man Called Destruction: The Life and Music of Alex Chilton, from Box Tops to Big Star to Backdoor Man) and author Rich Tupica (There Was a Light: The Cosmic History of Chris Bell and the Rise of Big Star). Also of note is the availibility of notes and transcript of the podcast. Set aside two hours to listen to this and then spin the album itself again with fresh set of ears.
