Singer/guitarist Miesha Louie and drummer Sean Hamilton are Miesha & The Spanks, a fuzz-heavy garage/alt-rock duo. Their latest single Dig Me Out tackles the horrific discovery of 215 child remains at the Kamloops Residential School in May 2021. They were the victims of a long-running program destined to "kill the Indian in the child" run by the Catholic Church and the Canadian government.
Louie herself is a mixed-Secwépemc, living in a Treaty 7 Territory and her righteous anger is almost palpable. She does not take any shit from anybody. With this single she gives a voice to all those kids, who forcefully silenced, and paid the highest prize in an absurd and racist scheme.
