Jesco: Bored or Sad

Dutch quartet Jesco offer a spicy mix of folk and rock 'n' roll on their new album Bored or Sad. They are firing on all cylinders during upbeat songs like Bo Diddley, Gasoline and Mean Motherfucker, with quite of bit of good ol' posturing vocals. By contrast the story about the death of a baby hits home in the mid-tempo The Womb, with probably the saddest accordeon this side of New Orleans.

Roots music is all about making it real. Artists should have lived it in order to tackle both joy and grief. Jesco play their hearts and have recorded a studio album that comes close to the intensity of a live concert. People who managed to stay put when they are playing, should pay a visit to a otolaryngologist post haste.

Jesco:
Berend Vrakking: vocals, banjo, guitars, blues harp
Joost Bos: accordeon, washboard
Joran van Bart: double bass
Victor van den Hende: washboard, percussion
