Trash Gendar: Once, Child

Brooklyn psych art rockers Trash Gendar have crammed a couple of decades of alternative music within the four tracks of their new EP Once, Child: shards of Television, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, Dead Can Dance, The Low Anthem plus some jazz and post-rock bits.

This quartet is all about building a structure - or more accurately an assortment of structures - as the foundation for their songs. Once that's in place, it's a free for all launch pad for exploration topped off with delicate harmonizing or shouted vocals (or both). They only rule they abide is that there are no rules. At the end of the day it all comes together as a smart slice of accessible avant-pop. And the band's name? It's a nerdy joke reference to Dash Rendar, a character from Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire.

Trash Gendar:
Gabe Smoller: guitar, vocals
Freddie Wyss: guitar, vocals
Justin Buschardt: bass, vocals
Tym Wojcik: drums

Once, Child is a self-released EP. Buy it from the band's website. Release date: Septemebr 9 (digital). Cassettes (electric blue) will available a couple of weeks later.
