AutoViolet: AutoViolet

Vancouver based power pop trio AutoViolet, with a lot of help of producer, guitarist and keyboard player Chris Dang, are a serious lot. The music on self-titled debut album may be mainstream, but the lyrics are far superior to the dumb "let's get drunk/stoned, and have sex" that is so popular in their niche - even the music gets darker at times - a thing they should explore more deeply if they really want to make a difference.

With songs about a former Playmate's suicide (Falling) and pain (Nevermore) singer Amy Arsenault pulls no punches. Her shared songwriting abilities with Chris Dang should be able to cross-over to Gothic rock with an electronic twist. And lots of European band made it big in Eastern Europe and South America by doing so. Bass player Brent David Johnson and drummer Chris Banting won't mind expanding their musical horizon.
