Obviously you need recording skills and you have to understand the signal path of sounds and so on. But that is stuff you can learn out of books and from this and that. But one thing about being a guitar player is that I can get to places with musicians very quickly, something I couldn't do if I wasn't one. It is really part of what I bring to the table as a producer.
